Both my daughters killed their first with a Savage .22-250. They both shoot very well and 99% of the time hit just where they are aiming. They never failed to kill what they were shooting at. From my experience its moving so fast upon entry the bullet shreds and its almost like buck shot on the inside. I would find fragments everywhere. Usually on cleaning the animal I would only find the boat tail under the skin of the off side. Lots of internal damage, the deer wont live if you hit it in the bread basket, it is devastating. However there is little to no blood because there is usually not an exit wound. I say "usually" because when my youngest killed her first with it (when she was 9), I had told my partner I may need him to help track if she shoots. She heart shot on a hard angle and blew its brisket open. Blood everywhere!!!! He got there but she had already tracked it herself. He said good gosh did what did she shoot it with a howitzer?
It would not be my choice but believe me it will kill. My girls killed several with it but the next year I would bump them up to a .243 or 30-30

A prepared shooter should do well, although I would only use it on Does.

Never killed one with it but there's a ton of folks in TX that swear by it. I would use a hard bullet. A barnes, partition or bonded.

Really wish a faster twist than the std 1-12 was more common. I’d love to shoot the 55 gr TTSX from mine, but I think it requires either 1-8 or 1-9 to stabilize.
I know there are some newer rifles with a faster twist but if I need to re-barrel or buy new I’d probably choose a different cartridge

55 grain will stabilize fine with the older 12 and 14 twist barrels, at least in the ones I have shot. Would not move up to any of the heavier bullets without a fast twist, though.

Piled up more than a few with one. 55 grain soft point behind the shoulder. Always done a good job. That was my pasture rifle a few years, then I found I could buy .270 and .30-06 ammo cheaper.

Keep thinking whild I'm thinking you should switch to a Rat L Trap and spyderwire. The Nosler solid base is a deer killer...IF you can find them.

That's right. Tell the kid that they can't shoot the 8 point because they only have a 22 250 and see how that goes over.  All about shot placement. Hit them in the wheelhouse and it will do the job.
