My feeder is in an open field. I want to put a 5' long 2x4 in a 5gal bucked with 50lbs of concrete to keep it upright & put my game camera on the 2x4. It would be easier to carry & fit in the bed of my truck with the tonneau cover if it were 2 parts. If I put a 4" PVC pipe in the bucket & cut it ~2" higher than the bucket, 50lbs concrete, can I slide a 2x4 into the the PVC pipe? I expect I would need a screw to keep the 2x4 from twisting. I want this, but I want to be able to take the 2x4 out for transport. I use a t post. Attach a piece of scrap wood to post with some U bolts.

I use a t post. Attach a piece of scrap wood to post with some U bolts. Much easier than moving 50# bucket around

50lb quikcrete and split it. 25 lbs each.
The ground is so hard at times hard to get spike in it & I don't want to leave a metal T-Post for a mower to hit.

What you have pictured is what I use regularly. I've made 4 of them at different times and upgraded a bit each time. 25# is plenty! I don't like using my 50# that I made first, it's too heavy. I also add a short piece of steel conduit sticking out parallel to the ground a couple inches from the bottom of the bucket and set it in the concrete with the 2x4. It becomes the bottom handle and the 2x4 becomes the top handle. Makes it much easier to move even after the bucket itself is long gone.

I square cut the 2x4 (4x4 or cheap landscape timber works also) and screw a piece of flat wood like decking on the end that just fits in the bucket. This is just to help hold the 2x4 straight as it sets. Level ground is your friend also. I added a few salvaged screws and left them sticking out of the 2x4 so the concrete would set around it just to prevent the 2x4 from possibly pulling out as I lift it over the next 10 years. Likely not necessary but I have a shoe box half full of various used decking screws I need to use for something anyway. Use treated wood and drill holes around the bucket just above the cement line (and maybe on bottom also if you like) so water can drain. Eventually the bucket will decay/crack and can be peeled off but until then it's still a bucket and it wants to hold water.

I have not made any of these, but I'd imagine it would be a good idea to slope the concrete away from the 2x4 to drain the water away. If the pipe idea works, it won't be that important because it would allow for easy replacement of the 2x.

I have not made any of these, but I'd imagine it would be a good idea to slope the concrete away from the 2x4 to drain the water away. If the pipe idea works, it won't be that important because it would allow for easy replacement of the 2x. I was thinking of drilling a hole in the bottom of the bucket, center of the PVC pipe so it didn't hold water & holes on the sides so the water could drain & screws to secure it in the concrete. I will put a bead of caulk around the bottom of the PVC pipe to keep the concrete out.
