At my camp house I replaced an old window unit. This unit had a dedicated outlet that goes to a dual pole 30amp breaker. So that's 2 30amps connected together. I suspect this unit is from the late 80s. It has never worked since I bought the camp house.
My new window unit is regular 120. I replaced the wall socket but I assume that dual pole 30amp breaker is too much for my unit. The unit will just pull what it needs but you want the breaker to trip in the event of an issue and I guess that size is a safety hazard?
What should I do in this situation?

If you just replaced the outlet, that is NOT GOOD. You now have 220v applied to a 120v receptacle. You will need to change the breaker to a single pole instead of a double pole for sure. 1 hot, 1 neutral, and 1 ground.

If the AC had a normal three prong plug a 15 amp breaker be fine. If it has a funky plug you'll need a 20 probably and a 20 wall plug to match

When he says AC plug, he talking about the male end The receptacle is the female thingy. The plug configuration will identify what the female configuration needs to be. That's gonna tell you the amps the single pole breaker should be

I always like black as load wire. Technically black wires are the only ones you're supposed to phase with tape. But with residential, it doesn't really matter

Like someone said take your breaker with you. Usually a square D or GE . At least ones I know of . They both plug differently into breaker box .
