The defense is the issue. Not the offense, not the time of possession, not the quick hitting drives by the offense, it's the defense. It's NOT the offense's fault the defense can't get off the field. This is 2024 not 1990. Adjustments are made in real time. It takes 1 communication to make an adjustment. Heck they are talking to the defensive SECONDS BEFORE THE BALL IS SNAPPED EVERY PLAY. There are iPads on the sidelines, 15 headsets. All they have to do is get off the dang field on 3rd and long. Saban built Alabama defenses for 3rd and med/long. They couldn't get off the field on 3rd or 4th down in Georgia and it should have cost them the game. They couldn't get off the field on 3rd down today and it did cost them the game. 35 points should be enough to be that Vandy team all day. Did the offense play perfect, heck no. But they played well enough to win. The defense was terrible in both aspects run and pass. And like I said after the first game, they are terrible on the back end. Terrible. They were terrible there last year too. 35-45 points is enough to win a game. If that doesn't win then it's a defensive problem. Blaming the offense for the defense being tired is BS. If they would get off the field in third down they wouldn't be tired. It would be like saying well the offense can't get a first down because the defense keeps going 3 and out and doesn't let the offense rest. It's just a dumb fan/ announcer point of emphasis that makes zero sense. Those guys are in good enough shape to play 3 plays, then rest for 3 plays while the offense is out there, and then go back in for 3 plays. Get off the field on 3rd down and it's not an issue.
Abolt I agree, you live by the big play, you die by the big play. But they didn't die by the big play... they scored 35 points. That is alive and well. They died because the defense sucks and they can't play man well enough to come after anyone. I couldn’t sleep so I got up and watched the second half, and I couldn’t agree with your assessment more. Bama has had some pretty mediocre defenses the past 4 years but this one takes it to another level. In the last 6 quarters they have forced the other team to punt a grand total of two times. Alabama recruits at the highest level and signs the top classes every year but can’t field a defense that can stop an SEC bottom dweller on 3’rd down. It really is inexcusable. I’m realistic about things and I know no matter how good Bama recruits for the rest of time, they aren’t going to win them all. I’m not one to think the world is ending if they get clipped by a Georgia, or Michigan in the playoffs or whatever. I mean sometimes the other team is just going to make a few plays and get you. That’s just part of it. To field a defense that’s so bad that Vanderbilt runs you down the field series after series is completely unacceptable with the talent level that Alabama has at their disposal. 42 minutes in Time of Possession and Vandy was 12-18 on 3’rd down conversions. Really? And that BS with Malachi Moore throwing a tantrum and kicking the ball after the official set it for play while Vandy was banging out first down after first down to ice the game. If I were coaching that team he wouldn’t ever do that chit again. Be hard to do sitting on mom and dads couch in Trussville waiting on the draft.

Problems are on both sides so the ball.

Are you honestly trying to say that with Bama’s heisman candidate, the greatest athlete to ever put on a college uniform, and an offense chock full of 5 stars, with another dozen or so sitting fully rested, on the bench behind them, that Bama shouldn’t be expected to score more points against Vandy than those three teams. C’mon Pwyse. Yes the defense is suspect, especially the backfield, and has been since the start. We’ve discussed that at length. But Bama’s offense, and every player on it, while explosive at times, is also highly overrated with the exception of Williams. Ground game was anemic yesterday, including the heisman himself, and once again over half of Bama’s total passing yards came on just 2-3 big 50+ yard plays. Steady drives, repeated consecutive first downs and time of possession actually do matter. Steady consistent drives and first downs, keeps the defense off the field and wins ball games. Bama doesn’t have a coaching problem. Bama, like most everyone else has a team issue. Saban saw it last year and didn’t want to deal with it anymore, so he hung it up. Like Mrs Terry told him, “the players have changed, why are we even trying to do this any more”. With NIL, no lost eligibility for transfers, and the portal, Saban realized it had become impossible to fix it because he no longer had the leverage and financial control over the players and their futures. If he cracks down on them, they simply quit and immediately show up in a different colored uniform. The college game has irreversibly changed. Deboer is now tasked with fixing things and producing a winning product, but dynasties are over in college football. The days of building a true “team” for a championship run and dominant teams running the table undefeated, will be few and far between. This might be a good thing for this Bama team because they were obviously listening to CNC and believing their own hype and press. Bama will be fine and the playoffs will be full of 1 and 2 loss teams. It’s the new college football model.

Hard to score points when you're not on the field This^^^- Can’t blame the Offense for a loss at all when the opposing team held the ball for 40 minutes and change and Bama held the ball for 17 minutes and change. The Defense could not get off the field if their lives literally depended upon it. When Your DC keeps putting 5 and 6 players in the box instead of 7 and 8 players in the box to combat and put and end to the gimmick offense then You will get the results Bama got yesterday.

If Bama wins 35-0, we are talking about Vandy being a better team than usual. No one in America is talking about how terrible Bama's offense is but you Abolt.

It doesn't matter how long you take to score. The defense being on the field for so long was the defense's fault, not the offense's. Deboer said exactly that in his post game conference. I'm watching it now. He said our ability to get off the field on 3rd down keeps the ball out of the offense's hands, and doesn't allow our defense to rest. He didn't say ANYTHING about the defensive struggles being the offenses fault. Because it's horse crap. Stop letting your anti Milroe/athlete at QB cloud your judgement. The offense wasn't perfect as I said above, but they played beyond well enough to win. The defense obviously did not play well enough to win.

I watched the game on my phone while at a wedding. I didn't look at the defense much honestly. But if they played a 5-6 box against them that tells you how bad they are at man. Usually should play man under and throw as many bodies as you can up front. We will see how it goes the next few games I guess

If that is true, then I don't think you can pin this huge embarrassment completely on the defense.

Against Vandys defense, our heisman and his 10 other 5 star player offense should’ve scored 60. Problems are on both sides so the ball. Actually they are pretty good. You should watch the game and their previous games. They just aren't very consistent. They played more consistent against Bama. I didn't watch the game but didn't I read the this great Heisman QB and offense had two turnovers that resulted in 14 Vandy points? If that is true, then I don't think you can pin this huge embarrassment completely on the defense. One was a pick 6 that hit the receiver in the hands and it tipped to the defense. Should have been caught but it wasn't. That resulted in points. The other you are referring to was a blind side hit on the QB and he dropped the ball. The defense recovered. It happened around Vandy's 45 yard line. So they didn't have a short field or anything. I would definitely not blame the ensuing Vandy TD on the Bama offense. They drove it 55 yards on Bama's defense for the score.
