Nope, just suspending it until after the election from what I heard. They don't want to hurt the Dems.

Next time. They will have a different spokesman.
This guy just got himself (and the Dems) more negative attention than he bargained for. But now a plan has been formulated to keep the ports running regardless of if they strike
And to make things worse for the Union, full automation will be pushed in sooner than later.

Nope his Democrat masters called him and told him to stand down and that what he was doing was about to cost them any chance at winning the election. He just rescheduled his strike for Jan 15th, 5 days before Inauguration Day. That way if Trump wins, he can tank the economy that point, if Kamala wins, they’ll figure out how they want to handle it.

Yep, he really hurt them in the Court of Public opinion with his talk of crippling America and drawing attention to his lavish lifestyle.

they can be fired but it has to be legitimate reason... but from what i have read law says they can be permanently replaced until another job opening comes up

from : https://www.justia.com/employment/unions/strikes/

Economic Strikes:

When a strike is conducted for a lawful purpose, there may be both economic strikes and unfair labor practice strikes. These are two different classes of strikes. Economic strikers are striking to obtain economic changes, such as improved working conditions or higher wages from an employer. These strikers cannot be fired but can be replaced by bona fide permanent replacements. If a company has retained bona fide permanent replacements who are performing the economic strikers' jobs when the strikers apply unconditionally to come back to work, they are not entitled to be reinstated. However, if they do not get regular and mostly equivalent positions, and they have asked unconditionally for reinstatement, they can be asked back to any positions if there are openings.

That was kinda my point.

Fox News hadn’t mentioned rescheduling it when I posted this

In theory, they can. In practice, no. There’s too much paperwork and red tape to just hire a guy and having him on the dock working the next day. They have to have TWIC cards, and all sorts of safety classes just to be on the dock. Port workers are kind of like the railroad guys. You gotta know someone to get in, and the union is so prevalent, even in management - if they think you’re not sympathetic to the union, you won’t get a full time spot. You’ll do bitch work until you quit.

From what I understand, It’s easier on whoever it is doing the hiring to just call up the union and tell them you need more manpower than it is to invest all the company’s time and money into a new hire and risk them not working out.

Which is why the longshoremen union was pitching a fit about automation. The union isn’t worried about scabs, they’re worried about a robot that can be programmed to do their job and making the UNION obsolete,
