What a racket auto tag cost are. I just got a renewal notice for my 2 vehicles; one is worth about 5 times more than the other according to KBB. The tag cost difference is 15 times? Where do they get these values??

One of the big reasons I like TN. $129/year, or maybe it was $112, but it is the same every year no matter if it is a 2024 Lexus or a 1979 Ford Pickup. It all tends to even out. Tags are cheaper, and no state income tax, but property taxes are more. Same with Florida, Texas, etc.

I went through this several years ago. After getting transferred about four times i finally reached someone "in the know". They use some book I'd never heard of in Montgomery. It had my 20 y.o. Tacoma valued $1,000 higher that Blue Book, KBB, or Consumer Digest. They do what they want down there.

That’s why I drive old junk and take care of it. I have no problem driving a 20 year old car or truck.

Bought house and place up there that was very comparable to his place here in Alabama. He said his was actually cheaper. He was on disability when he moved back. No insurance for his wife and he said the had Tenncare that helped with her.
