This strike also affects goods leaving the country,we ship a pile of pulp to the Mobile port everyday,if we can’t send it there we have to stock pile shipping containers until we have somewhere for them to go,if we can’t ship it out then we have to take downtime

I worked for Noranal in the 90's that was bought out and became Scottsboro Aluminum. When contract time came up we were locked out and they ran it for 5 months with company people and hired whoever they could. There is a lot of skill in making aluminum sheet from ingots so production suffered so bad that the contract was settled. I went from 14.20 an hour to 14.70 with .35 raise the next 3 years. I said that to compare with todays money. I am not promoting a union by no means greed in their leadership has turned me off on them. Also I could teach an intelligent person to run a fork truck and a crane in a short time. I don't know all the details of their job to judge them. But I got a pretty good ideal a lot on here could do most of the jobs with a little training. I worked for Alcoa when they bought the equipment in the plant . We unbolted it from the floor and sent it out. Now my question is what are the laws now on replacing striking workers? Can they legally do it ? All we could do was walk up and down the road and holler "Scab" when they rolled by doing our jobs. If any of y'all have ever been in that position you understand the stress and questions you have about why you cant feed your family. Things can get violent also and that is a powder keg situation. For you that are knowledgeable about the laws now what is the company's legal recourse? What is the unions?

I was in college at the time and certainly remember the stressful time y’all had.

The technology is already out there to put 80% of them out of work. They better be careful or these companies are going to finally get fed up with their crap!! Ports in Asia are damn near fullly automated.

I’m sure they can hire temporary workers while they’re on strike,the paper mill near Eufala done it when they went on strike a year or so ago

What are the laws are they the same as 25 years ago. Used to say in every contract I worked under “The company has the right to direct the work force” That was always our downfall

Consider them to have quit and replace them. The pics I have seen of them on the picket line, they sure don't look like a bunch of einsteins to me. Probably wouldn't be hard to replace their arrogant asses with folks who want to work. fk em.

International Paper in Mobile knows exactly how you feel, Of course that place is long gone now. They made them guys suffer with a lock out. Used to be by Scott Paper and now Kimberly Clark. I worked on Alcoa's centac compressor back in the day too.

I’ve been a teamster for 32;years. The way that president handled himself in the public eye is terrible. How you get sympathy by saying you will cripple this nation. I take so many pills a day plus chemo again fighting cancer and the last thing I need are shortages. I agree everyone should be able to make a living doing a job like that but as far as I know they make decent money with great benefits. He supported Biden last election and I’m sure Harris this one. At least the teamsters have decided to not publicly promote any candidate this time. I hate he is standing behind the union making threats against the us people.

What this really shows is why we need to bring back manufacturing here. Agreed but a lot of the goods we produce here get exported globally. Savannah handled 775,000 units in 2023 via roll on roll off ships, of that figure not sure how many were imports vs exports though

Heard on talk radio today this is the east coast longshoreman striking.
Apparently the west coast union reached agreements last year and are currently working on as usual.
Also it was said this arrogant union rep makes 1 mil year! While the actual workers are making 70k. And I wonder if he still gets paid while the strike is going on and the workers don't. Fk em, hire replacements and automate as much as you can. Machines don't have sick days or go on strike like these dbs.
