This storm is coming together like Opal. That means More inland damage than the coast and the coast got messed up bad with Opal.
Its going to be a big wind fast mover.

Hope you are wrong Guv, I lived in Conecuh County during Opal on a dirt road. Took three days to get to the main road working both sides. Took 14 days to get power back on. Only water source was a well, thankfully wife caught water in anything that would hold water and we could flush. Terrible storm with wind a $hitload of rain.

I remember opal well. It tore a bunch of stuff up in Houston county.

I will never forget Opal. Hit on my Birthday 10/4. One section of our truck shop came into the living room of the house. We were just south of Elba and no power for 8 days. Lived 5 weeks in a house with half of it blocked off with tarps and left over wood from the damage. Finally got a contractor hired to help us rebuild. Don't want to go through that again.

I lost a bunch of big pines from Opal. No power for quite a while either.

I lived through Opal myself down here on the Gulf. Crappy thing was, Erin had just came through weeks before.

Opal went all the way through Opelika uprooting trees and such.

I lived in Troy at the time, with my new bride. We were supposed to close on our first home, the day Opal hit. We rode out the storm in the 100 year old rental shack I had been renting. There was a good breeze through the house during the storm. The wind was so loud during the night that we didn't know that two large pecan trees fell near the house during the night. One on each side of the house. The tops crossed in the back yard when they fell.

One funny thing from that night was a caller on 92.3. Weather was terrible. He called in and said, "Me and a buddy are fishing on the river, is there any kind of weather warning for our area?" He was joking of course, and there were 85 mph sustained winds at the time.

Yep. Opal came and went a couple of times.

OPAL Blew down several Oaks on a GOOD Ridge of Oaks I had killed several Turkeys On.....Fall/Spring just North of Florala...

Dang. Just dang. Opal kicked major azz along the coast & well inland. I used to buy a much needed chainsaw just before, or after a major hurricane came ashore near my home. I had a habit of writing the storms name on those saws case with a permanent black marker. I’ve got an old Husqvarna that has cut many trees, that’s named Opal. Fredrick was a nasty one for coastal Al. Katrina kicked out but pretty good too. Coastal Mississippi got slammed by Katrina, but all you ever heard about was New Orleans. Hummmmm. Around’97 or so a little storm named Danny stalled in lower Mobile Bay & it rained more than 20” in 30 hours.
I’ve lived in lower Alabama most all my life and have built back house and business more than I care to remember. I’ll stay for this one too & hope you folks get your much needed rain

I remember Opal. Was in still a Cat 1 when it hit Montgomery. I was videotaping my oldest son trying to learn to walk and panning the camera to the door filming it raining sideways. I mean at a serious 180 degrees. We lived in Old Cloverdale and it was a complete mess.

Opal was bad ass, but she came up wayyy further west than what they're predicting this storm to do, slight jog and she'd hit Baldwin dead center, or been in the Bay

You thinking about Elena? We had to evacuate twice for that one. No telling how many tens of thousands of pounds of grouper a hand full of us caught after she passed. Storm was supposed to hit us, so all boats were moved and we stayed on them. Next day it took a hard right towards Tampa so we came back.A day later she made a loop and started heading west so we moved boats again. She crossed the middle grounds and flooded Perdido Pass and Terry Cove with grouper then made landfall in MS. If you look at the tracking, you’ll understand to never predict a storm until it’s gone.

right before she came thru pop had the timber cut here i marked 16 white oaks not to be cut . opel got every damn one .

We were down at DI catching spanish macks like crazy...guy came driving down the pier, yelling to everyone to get off the pier cause a hurricane was coming. We packed up and left, got home and started boarding up windows and helping the neighbors, whose husbands were working, board up. Storm was headed NW, then turned and headed east, then looped back and headed back NW again, riding the coast along the way.
