Statement from Mayor Cooper regarding Haitian migrants:

"I would like to take a moment to address concerns that I am hearing from our citizens regarding some Haitian migrants.

First, I would like to say that we are sympathetic to the men, women and children who leave their country to focus on building a better life, especially amidst economic hardship, political instability, social unrest, war, and natural disasters.

We are aware that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ program allows refugees from Haiti to be placed in our community. It is unfortunate that we as a city were given no advanced notice nor additional resources to accommodate this influx.

My office is in close contact with local law enforcement, the healthcare community, the school systems, and other groups that might be impacted by this unexpected migrant influx.

There have been some serious allegations of crimes happening in our area. If these things did happen, it has not been reported to our law enforcement. If anyone is aware of criminal activity, I urge you to let the appropriate authorities know so the claims can be investigated.

We will uphold the law regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity. If someone breaks the law, we will pursue them to the fullest extent.

The federal programs that have brought these migrants to the Wiregrass have unintended consequences. Frankly, we have not been given the resources to help these migrants assimilate as best they can into the local community. Our services are strained.

To the citizens of Enterprise: we hear you. We are as frustrated as you are that our resources are limited and taxed by this federal program. We are working with other communities that are experiencing a similar influx. We are seeking out resources where we can, while ensuring that all city, state and federal laws are followed.

I met with some members of the Haitian community who settled in Enterprise. We discussed many things, to include our cultural differences and cultural norms. We want everyone in our city, who wants to work, to be gainfully and legally employed.

Our city last year adopted updated property maintenance and fire codes. We are holding landlords responsible. We are ensuring that everyone has access to essential services like clean, running water as well as safe living conditions.

We want everyone who comes here legally to be active, productive members of our community and to feel welcome in Enterprise. Afterall, our city is the epitome of triumph over adversity. It’s a story we know all too well.

The City of Enterprise will remain vigilant in the coming days, weeks, and months, and will continue to act in the best interests of our community and all who call it home."

Well, i reckon at least he had the balls to say something. And i believe his statement is probably accurate and he very well might be doing all he can

Not sure he could say anything better than that considering the crappy situation The Dems put him in.

This is retaliation for the relocation of Hispanics from conservative states to liberal states. They are saying fine, you wanna ship Latinos to a liberal city, we will ship you Haitians in return. Just my opinion. It can’t be an accident where they wind up. Far as I know they aren’t shipping Haitians to Martha’s Vineyard or The Hamptons

Can they at least start paying taxes like all of us do upon exit off aircraft? I remember folks talking about how they will be struggling and see foreigners getting free food on us. One example was a working family seeing all the groceries the foreigners get paid for by the government when they struggled to provide for their own kids and couldn't get nothing. Might as well share the taxes if we sharing free food. We have people overlooked here that can't meet the bureaucratic paperwork bs on income threshold, but the forigners not reporting income getting free rides. I am all in about helping impoverished folks, but we need to be routing some of this back to our veterans, impoverished, struggling working families already here as well.

Well paid assholes are the problem.

The other problem is that they need to be called what they are.
They are enemy invaders.
They are not refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, or even "illegal aliens" . They are enemy invaders.

A lady that claims to have worked at grocery store in Springfield Ohio said they have ebt and debit cards totaling 50k for them to spend.

I like Bill Cooper and he's done a lot for the city. But I find it hard to believe he didn't know they was coming here. He's just pandering to the voters who have noticed the massive influx of Haitians.

That's right. So we need to bus them right back to DC and NY and California. That's simple enough to do and cheaper than keeping them in Alabama. It's an easy problem to solve and needs to happen starting today.

Bus them to a battleground state!!

I still wanta know who did the choosing and why/how these small towns were chosen for large groups of Haitians.

Voting demographics.

That don't tell why it is those towns in particular and not a town 30 miles away and who made the choice. They gonna have to bring a lot more in than a few thousand to change the voting demographics in rural Alabama.

That's what I'm worried about. They probably will. See Ilhan Omar's story in Minneapolis. It starts as a slow trickle. There is no doubt to me that this overall wave of immigration is about 1 thing. Voting influence. It's not charity.

How are they ending up in these towns? Are they being relocated from within the US or are they getting on a plane in their home country? How are they selected for acceptance to be here? Is there any pre planning for their accommodations? Eventually the story will come out and I don’t think many will be pleased.

At least the mayor released a decent statement. The Sylacauga Mayor..not so much
