I believe it's easier to win lottery without buying a ticket than getting drawn for a soa hunt!

Stay in Jackson. Your hunt will be pretty much peak rut. Lots of deer, nothing super special rack wise, typical south Bama bucks. A good one there will score 110-120". If you shoot one better than 125", you've really done something to be proud of and you've killed a unicorn.

If I see a deer, I will be happy. If I kill a deer, I will be ecstatic.

I'm honestly surprised they let anybody hunt it. I do see alot of does when I launch the boat though.

Do you lose all preference points if you accept a hunt. I got picked for one that I’m thinking is not ideal and wouldn’t want to lose my points for a better hunt next year

I didn’t get drawn this year (only 2 points so no shocker) but my dad got alternate for upper state on 11/7 and 1/30. He accepted the alternative for 1/30, I know that would be prime rut up here, hoping the rut won’t be too far gone by then, way down there.

Yes, unless you withdraw a certain amount of time before the hunt.

I think the cut off is 2 weeks. Mrs. Bamaeyedoc had to withdraw last year for health reasons and the guy we spoke to said 2 weeks. She didn’t lose her preference points.

The part they hunt isn't around the lake.

I got selected for 4 hunts as a Hunter and two as an alternate with 2 preference points. Granted, 4 of those hunts were dog hunts which seems to be relatively easy to get into.

If you only have 2 pref points then you haven't applied every year for a long time.

I certainly have. That’s why I have a question about it.

If you miss a year your preference points reset

Hunter for Little River Sate Forrest and alternate for Thigpin Hill. Both gun hunts starting on 1-30 and drawn with 9 preference points. Not sure if I’m going to accept them. Don’t know much about either of them.
