Anybody know how the hunting is in clay county? Ashland to be specific.

I grew up hunting there. Poor soils, lots of hunters and pine thickets. In general, poor habitat. Someone correct me if they have a different opinion.

Ashville to Lineville to highland all the way to Abel. I spent a bunch of time in that area when I lived there. Seems like the deer numbers are on the low side. I never saw what I would cobsider a big deer. A few 125s but never any nice bucks. Seemed like I always saw bigger deer in Randolph county or up in cleburne county. Seemed like better deer in the munford to Waldo area.
But that was just my observation. I never saw enough to make me want to hunt there.

Hunt a farm in Mellow Valley for 20+ yrs. Not anything to brag about. It’s a pretty place though. I only go over there now about every 2-3 yrs a time or two.

My club is there. It’s OK for deer. Good turkey numbers.
