I looked at last month’s power bill last night, and decided to do a little math of my own.
From Alabama Power’s website, the first 1000kwh is $0.126207 per kWh, and the rest of it is $0.128736 per kWh.
I used 2917kwh of power last month. That makes the first 1000kwh cost $126.207, and the other 1917kwh cost $246.78691. There’s a base cost of $14.50. All of that combined equals $387.49.
My bill last month was $513.47. What the hell am I missing? Based on that usage and bill, it’s a rate of $0.1709 per kWh. Could it be a whole or partial part of last month too? In other words maybe the remainder is a carryover of kWhs from the month prior. Nope. My power bill is always 4-500 in the summer. This is just the first time I’ve calculated what the cost should be. They do not charge everyone the same. I checked my bill against my dads and FILs and all three were different. My dad was paying almost 2x what i was per kw hour. My FIL was about half way between me and daddy
