My mom needs home health care. Does Medicare cover anything like that. She having mental issues.. how would I go about getting her some help

Pretty sure it doesn't. I had to hire caregivers to sit with my dad. Paid out of pocket.

My grandmother is/was on home health and her Medicare covered most of it, very few bills. Believe it depends on the type of coverage you have or something..

Schedule a consultation with an elder care lawyer. They will be able to tell you everything you need to know.

Medicare part A will cover Hospital , Home Health and Hospice there may be some limitations.

You say she is having mental issues. Are you talking about memory loss or something else? I think home health care has to have a referral from a medical care provider so you may need to have a conversation with her primary care provider about what all is going on.

That sounds right from what I can remember. They sent home health 3 times a week for my mom. I had to hire a sitter and one point though.

She's having trouble doing stuff like just standing there staring at her closet but will not get dress. She did not get to the toilet and crapped in the floor in front of it. Just seat on the toilet looking around. Could not get her to clean it up or herself. Took me 6 hours to get her and the floor cleaned up. She got the worst of it up and I finished. Got her in shower and she seat on a stool and bathed. But still had mess on the back of her legs. She got out of the tub went to the back bathroom and seat on that toilet and would not get dressed. I finally got her to put on a diaper and sleeping top. She eating now but she's having good days bad days. Gonna take her to her gp Monday unless tomorrow is worse then er.

Home health for my parents meant a nurse stopped by the house three times a week to take vitals and help with meds. Also answered any questions and checked on overall health. We had to pay for sitting out of pocket.

Sounds like she needs a nursing home with round the clock care. Medicare will cover that after all of her assets are expended. There is a 5 year look back so everything needs to be out of their name 5 years before they need Medicare to cover it. Good luck bud, it’s a hard thing to go thru.

At this advanced stage you may consider a nursing home
Home health will only come every few days and they’re limited to what pain meds they can give
Hospice care can do a little more but not much
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself

She in no pain at all. I'm on her house note with her so my attorney said they could not touch that. Only thing in her name is a 03 monte Carlos.

It was mentioned that Medicare will pay once assets have been expended, but I think it's actually Medicaid that does that. And yes, there is a 5 year look-back period. I think to qualify you can have no more than $2,000. I also think they do allow you to have your home and one vehicle, but I may be completely wrong on that. It's been years since I looked into it.

Just went through something very similar. Good luck its not fun and very stressful. Mom couldn’t get around very well came home from school one day and she had had a stroke. Thank goodness she had all her legal papers in order and it said she wanted no feeding tube

I would hire a good elder care lawyer to discuss nursing home options with Medicare/medicaid option for her specific situation. I am sorry to hear you are dealing with this struggle. It is rough.

Elder care lawyer will be able to answer questions and advise on estate matters. Usually get the first hour free, I got all I needed in that hour. Doc can get her on Hospice and they will send out a nurse a couple times a week to check her, will also send out a bather couple times a week, provide adult diapers and bed pads, provide hospital bed and other equipment as needed. You have to hire sitters if you go that route. Don't hire just one, two is good three is better. Hopefully you have POA and are on her accounts, if you are not on her SS account as a contact they will not talk with you even with POA. My mother moved in with my sister. We had a sitter come in seven days a week 10 hours a day. I would go over most every night and get her in the bed and settled. It was rough and my wife helped a lot, you can't do it alone. It was a tough 3 years but I would do it again.

Mom in nursing home - has medicade
She was in assisted living before that - she got dimentia - prob go see her tomorrow

Sounds like her illness is fairly advance. Is this just all of a sudden or over time. A UTI can throw old folks for a loop. If dementia she may qualify for hospice which is fully funded by Medicare. See what her primary doc says
