While I think full auto should be legal, I would own very few.
My biggest challenge with the NFA is the inconsistencies caused by the ATF's lack of knowledge.
I have a fully legal Remington Tac-14. No stamp needed, 14" barrel, pistol grip shotgun. If I added a full length buttstock to it, I make it less concealable, and I become an instant felon. Same if I change the birdshead pistol grip on it to a more conventional pistol grip. Hell, if I take an existing shotgun and turn it into an exact copy of that Tac-14, then again, instant felony. Meanwhile, the local sheriff's office issues a 14" barreled pump shotgun to every deputy that signs on with the department. And their SWAT team all get full auto sub guns issued to every member, along with certain other people in the department.
Same with AR pistols. If you have one, it is absolutely legal. Add a regular stock, and you are an instant felon. This is without changing the caliber or any other aspect of the firearm.
In Canada, 12" barrel lever action rifles are common, because they are very handy in and around vehicles/horses/tractors/UTV's. Not here, unless you want to go through NFA paperwork, pay a $200 tax stamp, and wait until the ATF feels that they can take the time to review your application and respond. They also treat every new request as an individual event. Your current status as a NFA Tax Stamp item owner has no bearing on any new request. I have several stamps, and the fifth one I got took longer than any other application. To quote something I have heard, "A right delayed, is a right denied"
Things that were legal last week suddenly are no longer legal, and most of their rules don't reflect any common sense or compliance with the 2nd Amendment. I agree with the poster above, that if the US Military has it, then it should be legal for the general public, with the exception of nuclear items.

Also - you can get a ticket if you don't have a muffler on your vehicle. But mufflers for your gun carry a $200 tax and an oppressive/punitive waiting period.

If full auto became legal with no strings, the price of powder, primers, brass, etc would actually go down according to my ole Economics Professor at JSU. Gas was approaching $4 per gallon, and he scoffed and said it’d be back down to less than $2 in our lives, go back up repeat. His opinion was that when ANYTHING is hugely overpriced, the motivation to produce more is hightened…politicians are bribed to deregulate, more drilling and refineries built…gas prices go down. Then the opposing politico gets in charge, environmental or osha are put in place (after more politicians are bribed by outside countries, etc) things swing the other way, and gas heads back up, repeat. Dude was pretty much spot on.

Interesting. Got to shoot a few while in law enforcement. Love the MP5 because it’s controllable even if it is 9mm. Fun to shoot MP5 and M16 on full auto but the most fun I had was at Glock Instructor school. The Glock 18 has a high cyclical rate and was a blast to shoot. Go through a lot of ammo with those things.

Most would not be able to afford to shoot something full auto. It becomes a novelty item in reality. Nothing usable and the fun wears off quickly.
I believe a well armed militia in 2025 includes tanks and rocket launchers. You wouldn't be well armed with just a M4. The founders intended the people to have the ability to fight and win.
I think that is the strict interpretation but the correct interpretation nonetheless. We're not doing that but that was the intent of our founders when they wrote those words and these is wisdom in what they wrote.

Full auto suppressed 10-22 would be affordable enough and a ton of fun. 25rd mag=$2-2.50 per mag, literally the cost of one round of factory 30-06 round of hunting ammo in 2024

Good lord.... Ok I was wrong you can bang through .22lr cheap enough.
You'd be tired of it after a couple bricks of ammo. That's the point. It's just a novelty item. You ain't doing crap with a .22. Y'all are in luck I can argue with myself so I'll head this one off... Maybe someone else wouldn't get tired of it after all their buddies lost interest..... as time rolls along they could tell random strangers they own a FA firearm and they'll think you're cool until you explain to them it's just a .22 but it still cost $10,000. It's stupid but they are available. Someone go buy one and report back.

Exactly.....FA is a novelty. Sure, it can be useful in situations where "suppressing fire" is needed......but unless you intend to find yourself in combat, the odds of you being in a position where you need to "lay down suppressing fire" is very very low.
Should you be allowed to own it without jumping through a bunch of extra, expensive hoops? Absolutely. Would owning one make you a goober? In most cases, yes.

Novelty or not, "...Shall not be infringed" means just that. Any argument as for why we do not need something is no better than the argument that you do not need a thirty round mag to hunt deer. Neither of these arguments are relevant.

If Full Auto becomes available to the general population I’ll probably convert one or two and save money to buy used lever actions as people dump them to get money for the latest craze.

I really would just be happy with a 3 position FRT or a fast .22 option. I guess we’ll see what happens with the FRT lawsuit.

They don’t want us to have machine guns and destructive devices because they’re too much fun. Access to that stuff would take our minds off partisan politics, social media, news outlets, and all the other distractions needed to maintain a docile and obedient population. That is a microcosm of how I see most issues.
Sure, there would be more catastrophes and news headlines. But unrestricted freedom isn’t pretty. It requires responsibility on the part of the people exercising the freedoms. Sadly, I don’t think half the country can handle those types of responsibility. Look at the grocery cart analogy or the number of single mother households. Half, if not the majority of our populace would rather be told what to do and rely on others for basic needs. They shun personal accountability and the ability to self govern. They expect other people to do it for them.
As long as we had belt fed machine guns, suspending all federal government operations with the exception of the military for a month would do this country a huge favor in my opinion.
Or we could start with making people pass a 12th grade civics test before they can register to vote.
