MOST americans havent saved anything. Alot of them dont own anything that appreciates in value, maybe a car and some clothes, not much more. On the bright side, most of them dont even consider saving. It never crosses their mind. If they get $1000 today, they spend it today on things that will wear out eventually or they smoke it up. Its messed up but it is what it is. I dont see this problem getting solved because many people are happy having nothing.

I don't want to work forever. I like freedom to do what I want. Been saving ever since Ive been working.

Out of that 14% most probably only have a little more than $100,000 and that is not going to last very long!

It is very sad. In addition to that, most don't have a burial policy or life insurance. That's why you see so many gofundme's to bury folks.

What percent is on the .gov teet? They ain't worried about saving anything cause they gonna stay on that teet till the day they die...then the kids will continue to get the check. I've been saving since the first payday i went permanent. Ain't much, but i'm in the 14%.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Thats a mans last inconsiderate act, leaving his family to figure out how to get him in the ground. Leaving behind a pile of expenses and no way to pay them. It happens ALOT and its pathetic.

I retired 16 days ago. 40 years with the same company. The first week was kinda scary. What do I do know? Well I ride around on the island and look at all the crazy people going to work. Me and the wife saved pretty well. I’m one of the lucky few. I have a pension.

As Mitt Romney once said 47% don’t care what the taxes are either. Those people live week to week. I’d say folks on this site are an anomaly.

I will probably never get to retire. Its not that I don't have $ saved, I do, but with no wifey, no second income, with the prices of things today, it would be tough. I am really nervous about it to be honest. Of course Trump could win and if my funds do what they did last time he was POTUS, I sure would feel a whole lot better.

My plan is to work as long as possible. I’d be totally bored unless I had time and a significant amount of $$$. My current job ain’t exactly roofing work either…

One of the most basic parts of retiring is a budget. A budget, administered properly and adhered to monthly will, in effect lead you into investing, saving money for retirement etc. I recently asked 10 members of my family, most with a BS degree (which just means they had an opportunity to go to school) how many had a budget. Two replied in the positive, only one actually used it to control revenue/expenses. I started my first budget when I married (age 18), 50 years later I still utilize one. Retirement age is different for some, for me it was age 57. As some of you know, I still work part-time in Law Enforcement. Not because I have to…….. it affords me the opportunity to pay for my expensive hobbies and not have an impact on my budget. If you want to see where your money goes, develop a budget, even if you have large monthly expense like medical, prescriptions etc. You may be surprised. Just my two cents, if it means nothing to you, just ignore my ramblings and enjoy life.

I’m 591/2 and could retire whenever if I wanted . Never had a retirement at my job except last five yrs but I been doing my own with local investment company in form of Roth IRAs . I’m shocked I’m so far ahead of most people I know . Some have a better retirement opportunity than but me but refuse to sign up. . I know what being poor is an I decided long time ago I wasn’t going live week to week anymore .
