My guess would be a Harris/Newson Ticket with Gavin running everything and getting setup for 2028. Or even Harris having to step down during her 4 years to let Newson take over. I don't think they could pivot away from Harris at this point. Newsom and any of the others on the Dem bench would be a fool to run as VP with her.

IMO Michelle Obama would be the one that could beat trump, like hosscat said, she isn't capable but people would vote for her. Bike Mike and her husband will not face the skull-dragging they would get. The Dems are just going to run Kamala for what they will call a "tactical loss". Just watch. A "calculated loss" is another phrase you might hear from the MSM. They'll run Kamala . I believe they'll roll the dice with Kamal . It may be hard to get someone to run with her. If she loses , it clears the field of her for others in '28. The smart thing for them to do is to run a face saving race with Kamala not doing anything and take the loss. But we know the Dems just cannot keep themselves from stealing stuff so its going to be stupid regardless.

They HAVE to place Kamala in the lead. To not do so, would turn away minorities by the millions. That's the worst look they could ever have. And that's their problem. She isn't capable, less so than Biden. She was specifically picked to keep anyone from trying to remove Biden and replace him with her. And here we are..
And, Kamala isn't gonna pick anyone who's not a minority. That's a fact. She may be forced to accept Whitmer or Gavin, but she'd have to be forced to do it.
The democrats are in a pickle and they know it too. They really don't have anyone they can run and win with. And it's getting worse every day.

If they don't go with Kamala , they have disenfranchised Dem voters. In many states , they wouldn't even allow challengers on the ballot , saying to voters ' you have to vote for Biden / Harris . If Biden steps down and they back room deal and swap out Kamala , the party has disenfranchised them.
Not to mention the big lie the Bidens , Dems and press has perpetrated on us all about Bidens health.
