I have no problem with service dogs Lord knows their needed.... but I do have a problem with this emotional support dog thing... I've yet to find a service dog stinking...my deal is when someone brings their stinking dog in a store or restaurant and the owner of said dog wreaks of the dogs funk too...

My brother and I went into a restaurant to eat dinner not long ago.... after siting down and ordering and just at the start of our meal three people come in and are seated a couple of tables away from us and other diners. Within seconds you can smell a stinking stench coming from the small dog they brought in with them ... my brother and I quietly complain along with other diners that were within the proximity of the stinkers to our waitress about the smell and that we couldn't eat our meal with that stench floating through the air... all we got was an apology no offer to make up for it... so we both calmly got up and walked out the door.... one other table of diners left as we did .

I thought the same way about therapy dogs that a lot of you guys do. Waste of time, easily abused, weak minded people... all that stuff.

Them my daughter went through a trauma while in college. The worst kind imaginable for a 18 year old girl. We didn't find out about for a year or so. We got her into some Christian trauma counseling. She had the worst kind of nightmares. Vivid and real nightmares. Won't go into detail about but you could not imagine. The fear these nightmares instilled in her was devastating. Our once vibrant, light of the room, beautiful, outgoing daughter could now barely leave the house. The human mind is a complex thing. How it deals with trauma is very complex as well. The therapist suggested getting a dog to sleep with her to see if it helped the nightmares. Inside I rolled my eyes but agreed to try it. Amazingly it worked. Not sure how or why but it worked. Ending these nightmares was the start of her road to recovery and living again. We registered the dog as a service dog but she only slept with it for about a year until she didn't need to anymore. She never took it anywhere with her or anything. But it made a believer out of me as far as therapy dogs go.

First of all, not one of your statements have anything to do with the topic and secondly, if you're actually STUPID enough to think an emotional support dog can't help PTSD/Anxiety/panic attacks, you got it bad lol.

Then I got it bad !

I know first hand about these things you speak of.

If you are actually STUPID enough to believe those three things are really helped by a fuggin dog…

Fact is, only certain personalities are bothered by trauma and there are better ways to deal with it instead of TRICKING them into becoming dependent on a dog or dope for that matter 😂🤣😂🤣

The same mental defect that would allow them to be traumatized also lends itself to dependency.

I ain’t talking about physically needing a support dog nor am I against mental needs due to TBI or cancer and such of the brain.

Y’all should read some of these VA rating letters and the CRAP they are getting diagnosed with PTSD for, about 3/4 of it ain’t combat related.

I remember the thread about dogs in church and never thought I would see it. Well, this woman has started coming with her "support" dog for anxiety. It's a pretty small long hair chihuahua and doesn't make a peep and she carry's it. She's a large woman. I don't know but as long as it doesn't make a peep or scene it doesn't hurt anyone.

Agreed.

True that those emotional support animals are often overstated and used as an excuse to have a pet with the person.

ptsd isn't strictly related to combat and anyone familiar with the VA process knows it's ANYTHING that caused their trauma during their career. You can argue until your blue in the face but the fact is, service dogs help and your opinion doesn't change the that fact. You should find something factual to wank about. BTW, I've read my fair share of claims and rating decisions letters and again. It has nothing to do with th OP

Boo-Hoo, and send that regard to the weak minded too. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

I didn’t say you only experience ptsd from combat, many get it because their sarge screamed at them too loud. Seen one guy get a purple heart from cutting his leg on a buggered up door frame. 🤣😂🤣😂

You can take 4 vets experiencing an explosion together, one gets her legs blown off and spends the rest of her life climbing mountains and running races, the other three no injuries. One of those three will have a PTSD diagnosis and a support/service dog spending the rest of their life telling people they have PTSD, one will go on to a wonderful marriage and career, one will live life away from the crowds. Which one has PTSD ? 🤣😂🤣😂

May not be legal, but it happens. My niece (flaming liberal, not my fault) downloaded a "certificate" for her "emotional support dog" (zero training, worthless POS dog) and the owners of the apartment she wanted to rent were required to accept it, and they couldn't ask for medical proof of an issue because of HIPAA regulations.

I told her that was wrong, and her attitude was "but I got away with it"

The law requires no doctors or forms was my point. A service dog just has to have training to assist someone with a disability. My little terrier mix that hunts with me is trained to help with hogs I can't hear (as well as I used to). Technically, he is a service dog under federal law.

From the ADA website for those with weak google fu.

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability.

When it is not obvious what service an animal provides, only limited inquiries are allowed. Staff may ask two questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform. Staff cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the dog, or ask that the dog demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task.

Allergies and fear of dogs are not valid reasons for denying access or refusing service to people using service animals. When a person who is allergic to dog dander and a person who uses a service animal must spend time in the same room or facility, for example, in a school classroom or at a homeless shelter, they both should be accommodated by assigning them, if possible, to different locations within the room or different rooms in the facility.
A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless: (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the dog is not housebroken. When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal’s presence.
Establishments that sell or prepare food must generally allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises.
People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees that are not charged to other patrons without animals. In addition, if a business requires a deposit or fee to be paid by patrons with pets, it must waive the charge for service animals.
If a business such as a hotel normally charges guests for damage that they cause, a customer with a disability may also be charged for damage caused by himself or his service animal.
Staff are not required to provide care for or supervision of a service animal.
