Dixie Mafia was not one group it was many small groups, mostly just low class thugs. Just like the group in NW AL, Ms, TN. you know Walking Tall, they were just 7/8 guys. I’m born and raised in Columbus, old enough to knowmany of the people from the early 50’s in Phenix City. I knew Hughbo Bently, his dad was determined to clean up PC, they blew his house up with dynamite, Hughbo, his mom and brother was in the house amazing they were not killed. I remeber my dad showing me where the killed Albert Patterson the Alabama Atty General. 90 percent of the crooks were not from Phenix City, some of the employees were from PC, when the guard came in they scattered like rats back to where they came from. Suprise, all of these businesses had licenses to operate that was obtained from Montgomery, The state knew what was going on but was collecting so much tax money the just ignored it until it Patterson was murdered then the had to act. One reason I would rather not have gambling at all in Alabama the cost does not out weight the benifit, a lot of the money will go to places and people you do now approve of.
