Had a kid leave a freezer open yesterday at about 3-4pm.. noticed the freezer had water around it when we got in from church this evening. Door was cracked open a few inches. Everything in the freezer is thawed out but cold. Would it still be good to freeze and eat?

I would try it. Just put it in the fridge a couple of days and then smell it

For me, it would depend on how cold. If still refrigerator cold, it may be fine to refreeze and some things may still be frozen in the back or bottom depending on what type freezer it is.

I would try it. Just put it in the fridge a couple of days and then smell it I’m positive I could take what I want out right now and cook it and eat it and it would be fine, just not sure about refreezing it. It’s pretty cold to the touch but completely thawed out. Don’t have enough time to cook it all and eat it before it would ruin just being in a fridge.

I would start cooking the most expensive things first. If you’ve got a lot of meat, smoke it all then vacuum seal and freeze it. It will last for months.

The door was just cracked but the freezer was still running and it all thawed? That’s crazy. I figure it would’ve still kept it pretty froze

I would start cooking all of it, then refreeze. ^^^^^Have done this before.^^^^^ Get a freezer alarm to help prevent this happening again.

Cook what you can and offer to others to cook it.. refreezing may not be best.

Had the same happen about 3 years ago for a damn popsicle also. Sound like you might want to feast on wild game for a few days if you have the time then chunk the rest

I wouldn't have a problem refreezing it if it was still cold. worst case you have some freezer burn or it taste alittle off. After the april 27th tornados we were some of the only ones that still had power and I filled the freezer with meat people couldn't eat fast enough. enjoy your meat and don't worry about it.

Refreeze it and eat it. The refrigerator here where I’m renting went out. Didn’t know it for 2 days because 1. I was at work 2. I was dog sitting my daughter’s dogs. So I had no reason or time to go into it. I had gotten something out Friday (all good) Sunday I noticed that the stacks ha shifted in the freezer. I tossed everything into a cooler, bout 2 bags ice to put over it then rushed it to daughter’s house and in the freezer. 4 days later this landlord finally got a new fridge. Moved everything back and it’s all good. Everything passed the smell tests before and after cooking also the taste test afterwards. Nothing is going to spoil in that short length of time because it’s not going to get up to room temperature that fast and how many times have you seen meat frozen at the store? Nearly none but it does come in frozen, thawed out then placed in the refrigerated counters for the customers to buy. Some of that meat will be in there several days before shoppers buy it.

Time to fire up the smoker, and call the buddies. In my opinion.
Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.

That's exactly why I will never own an upright freezer.
Chest freezers are a monumental pain to find stuff unless you are very careful organizing, but the lid can't stay open a few inches and cause you to lose everything.
