My wife complains I drive too slow. That’s why I always leave early.

Was told it wouldn't go on my record , I was told that applies only on your state driving record, AKA points, after the fact. Had I known it was gonna show up on insurance , I'd have paid it before court day and moved on . I've never been close to losing my license over points .

Back 35 to 45 years ago before the computers ruined everything you could pay that sucker the next day by mailing a check in and the insurance wouldn’t find out. That worked until you got a reckless driving and had your license suspended for a year. Then things got pricey.

Went to court today, attorney-less. Judge says to everyone in the room, "if you're here for a moving violation and want to keep the points off your record, form a line " so I got in line. Didn't ask me a single question about what happened. He (the judge) offered court costs $166 and driving school $200 and he'd drop the charge. As good a deal as I was likely to get so I took it. All they ever cared about to begin with was the money. To everyone who is disappointed with that outcome, who wanted them to throw the book at me, because I must be a menace to society because a LEO would never lie or overcharge or anything like that so I must be guilty, all I can say is that I'm pretty sure you will have time, if you choose to, to get over it before you die. Money is all the court and cops care about. State troopers jobs are made to collect money, all they good for. The state don’t care about our saftey, just the money. Just look at the cost of seat belt tickets.

You’re lucky the judge must have withheld adjudication. I’m still in shock that AL considers straight speed reckless. Back in the day in S. FL you wouldn’t even peak any interest unless you were 20 or over or aggressive in and out of traffic. Might get a mandatory court date for certain straight speed but not reckless just for straight speed. Our reckless statute requires a lot more than straight speed and you will go to jail for it. Sounds like AL has a much different statute for reckless. I need to remember to slow down when I’m up that way.

Great outcome other than outright dismissing it.

Don't feel bad, I got pulled over when driving a tractor because I was holding up traffic through Helena. I had a friend running blocker behind me.I told the SA I was running 4th and high which was the speed limit and anyone going around me was speeding. He said I had to pull over to let traffic by when there was six cars behind me. I said pull over where? There's no side of the road, it's a ditch. I was pulling off when I could. So we left the tractor and went to get something to eat. When we came back and started over, the SA cop follows us till we are out of the city limits.

BTW , was that 6 cars counting your escort ?

Helena has always only wanted the money. Sooner or later they'll go the way of Brookside. There are ties to the Helena PD and Brookside PD. It's gonna happen sooner or later.

My brother in law use to own the 2 small office buildings adjacent to the current Helena City Hall, if you try to go over there on traffic court day you cant get in his parking lot due to all the over flow from city hall. Helena has bigger problems than the PD, just go on AL.com and look at some of the recent articles on the mayor and city council. It starts from the top. Helena is also building a $20 mil new city hall complex when that money could actually go back to the citizens, there are plans for a new city sports park, but it is 2nd in line behind the new city hall. Not against a new city hall, but they could have built one to meet there needs for a fraction of that cost then used the rest for something that actually benefits the tax payers.
