A lawyer can get it reduced. I think that's what you are looking for. Hope it works out for you.

You may get lucky and get it reduced if you don’t have a bad driving history.

Best you can hope for us a reduction in charge to speeding.
Go in with the attitude you've displayed on this thread then get ready to bend over.

When I was 16 on 459 around Acton when that was all new, me and another idiot buddy decided to race. I had 4-5 other buddies in the wagoneer. Cop said I was going more than 25 over and if he wrote it for that it would automatically be reckless driving. He wrote it for 24 over. He could tell I was going to get my punishment at home!!

Not hard to recognize that 31mph over the speed limit is gonna be considered reckless.

I can tell you a reckless in Shelby co is considered way more serious than a dui. They offered my son 9 mos in jail and a $3500 fine for reckless after we sat there for hours watching people get driving school for second third fourth and fifth dui, probation for burglary and a 30 day suspended sentence for felon with a handgun.
It was crazy as hell. I had him stipulate and appeal, hired a lawyer and wound up with no jail, $300 fine, 50 hours community service and 3 years probation. I’ve put people in jail for. 1st degree murder that got more but served less and thousands of upocs possession with intent to distribute or straight distribution that got less.
Reckless is the most serious crime in Shelby county period and I hired one of the best most popular attorneys in Shelby co.

Plead ur case to judge yourself. Tell them ur guilty and plead ur case .as to what are your options . If this is ur first offense normally they will drop it to just a speeding ticket . If u lucky they can give you driving school and keep off ur record for insurance purposes. If ur really lucky they drop it if just pay court cost . Most time policemen will be there in court. Only thing better is if you know the judge or someone on police force there . Just remember your are guilty . Judge will take cop side 99% time over urs . Be nice an humble .

Throw yourself on the mercy of the court. Hopefully the judge turkey hunts and will understand the necessity of getting set up before it starts getting light.

Well your ticket should state the speed that the officer clocked you at.
61 in a 30 is reckless driving it’s purely based on the speed regardless of whether or no you stayed in your lane, didn’t break traction, etc.

I got a reckless driving ticket for power braking my truck when I was 18 or 19. They gave me the fine and the judge gave me 10 hours of community service. Like stated a lawyer might get it reduced but it didn't make my insurance go up that much back then.

Your best bet is to first talk to the prosecutor and offer to plea to speeding in lieu of Reckless Driving. If you want to pay a lawyer that is what they will do. Secondly, ask for a continuance in order to hire an attorney if you can’t work a plea deal. If the judge finds that you were 31 over, it will be Reckless and you don’t want that.
Work a plea deal.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I have a renewed appreciation for the FHP guys in Madison county, FL after reading through this thread. As former FHP you’re welcome. In college I had a buddy who had moved to West Palm Beach. I’d go and visit for spring break and again at least once in summer, largely for the fishing. I had an ‘88 Jeep Cherokee at the time and lead foot if I was traveling. The speedometer only went to 85 but, through trial and error, I knew the vehicle was governed at 115. Anyhow, I was making exceptional time and just as I was about to hit that long treeline in the median there, I spot the two-tone and bar lights coming westbound and feathered the brakes a bit. The lights came on after about 2 seconds and down into the ditch they came. I was already pulling over by the time he was back on the eastbound pavement. He was pleasant enough. The usual where are headed, do you know how fast you were going. I answered “104 maybe.” “I clocked you at 98” he said. We talked about all the fishing gear and such. He came back with my info and said “I’m issuing a citation for 90 in a 70”. I told him there was no need to do that. If I was going 98 to just write 98 and he let me know that 25+ mph over was an immediate arrest in FL. I said a little white lie never hurt nobody. I drove back through there a week later and kept her at 84 all the way through Madison county.

Went to court today, attorney-less. Judge says to everyone in the room, "if you're here for a moving violation and want to keep the points off your record, form a line " so I got in line. Didn't ask me a single question about what happened. He (the judge) offered court costs $166 and driving school $200 and he'd drop the charge. As good a deal as I was likely to get so I took it. All they ever cared about to begin with was the money. To everyone who is disappointed with that outcome, who wanted them to throw the book at me, because I must be a menace to society because a LEO would never lie or overcharge or anything like that so I must be guilty, all I can say is that I'm pretty sure you will have time, if you choose to, to get over it before you die.
