Gents. One of my favorite places in the world is Turks and Caicos! However, currently there are 7 different Americans that are being held there because they accidentally had small amounts of ammo in their luggage! One guy has been there for 6 months in jail awaiting a trial. He only had two rounds of 9mm in his bag. Not a single one of these people had illegal intent! I have traveled with ammo dozens of times on accident!!!!

Get this, the MINIMUM time for this offense is 12 years!!!!!

The US sent a diplomatic group over to meet with the Turks and Caicos government to intercede in behalf of these Americans and the local officials told them to piss off!

One young man is only 27 years old and his father has been there for 6 months and the family has spent their life savings trying to get this kid out of jail!

All of this is due to the island passing a zero tolerance law on guns and ammo!

This is one world BS! I am absolutely outraged by this behavior!

We need a few F22 raptors to fly over there and send those dumbass’s a message about who they have in their prisons!!

Screw them! St John is just as nice and that is US soil!

honestly they committed a crime and whatever time is handed to them needs to be served..

same way it was when Britney Griner was arrested in Russia for that incident involving a very small amount of weed or whatever it was..

everyone was like keep her ass she broke the law. same here they broke the law and need to pay the consequence.

its should be common sense to know the laws of a country you are going to visit.. ignorance of the law is no excuse

It’s sad that they’re in prison, but how hard is it to make sure you don’t have loose ammo rolling around in your luggage?

Ok. I see your point but why do I feel like the dude with a 22 bullet in a suitcase shouldn’t
get 12 years when our Govt. got that basketball dude out in less than a year and
released the worst arms dealer in the world to get him out

Ya feel me?

Better question I think needs to be answered is how did they get through TSA with loose ammo?

i absolutely agree.. it all depends on how the govt that has the charges wants to play the game.

with russia they knew we had the arms dealer and with enough public outcry our admin would cave to try and save face.

id have to go back and do some research but im pretty sure we dont have anything the turks want.

I got caught in Wichita with a shotgun shell in my backpack. I pheasant hunted that morning and drove straight to the airport. Checked my shotgun with my luggage at the counter and walked to TSA wearing my backpack which I thought I cleaned out. They pulled me out of line at TSA and asked if it was my backpack which I said yes. They asked a series of questions and took me to a room. When they pulled the shotgun shell out of my pack I just knew I was going to jail. A different guy came in and asked a bunch of questions to see if my story changed. He then told me it happens all the time during hunting season. They let me go and I still caught my flight.

I had another situation after shooting prairie dogs on a different trip in Wyoming. We shot like crazy for several days. I had a flight out a day before anyone else and was wearing jeans a shirt , a ball cap, and a jacket. I got randomly swabbed at TSA. I set off every alarm there was. Every article of clothing I was wearing tested off the charts for I’m guessing gun powder. They pulled my checked bag and same problem. Took nearly all day to sort that out. Missed my flight had to reschedule for next day.

I have found ammo in every bag I have. 2 rounds of 9mm can go through TSA all day long! I was flying back from Texas one time with a bow holder in my backpack. TSA pulled it out and asked me WTF it was. Unfolded it was about 18” of steal with a threaded end. They thought it was a weapon of death. After I told them what it was, they laughed and gave it back to me.

Listen, I am all about law and order but if I went to Turks and Caicos and they found two 9mm rounds in a side compartment of my bag!?!?! And you want me to spend 12 years in jail??? And some of you think that is OK??? Maybe you need a reality check!

America should place Turks and Caicos on a “do not travel” list. Just like most things in life, you have to hit them in the pocket to get their attention. That said, the Caribbean is a sh!t hole. I’ve been 2-3 times and will never be back. I kept hearing people talk about how great it was and I thought maybe it was just me so I gave it a couple more chances. Nope. Still a sh!t hole.

We have our rules and they have theirs. That’s why this is my country, and I choose to stay here. Do I think it’s right, nope. But is it their laws, yup..

EXACTLY! I don’t have a passport, and I have zero intention of getting one. Too many things happening like kkfish said. Besides, there’s a bunch of stuff here in our country I haven’t seen yet.

Difference is Griner knew she had it, the others didn’t. Put them on a no go list and let them starve. They’ll get right quick.
