My son is home from school after finishing his freshman year at college and has started his first “big boy” job today. He is working construction for the summer. I hope he loves it and hates it both at the same time. I hope he loves it enough to stick with his Building Science major and hates it enough to make sure he finishes school.

Edit: Day #1 is in the books. He came in filthy and said, “I have literally never felt so manly in all my life.” grin

Yes. Interning with Johnson Kreis in Birmingham. It’s a great faith based company with a lot of really good people working there. I know the superintendent he is directly under and I don’t believe I could have hand picked a better guy for him to report directly to.

Im a building science graduate myself. Internships are great opportunities to see what route he wants to take after graduation. The majority of graduates from my experience go the PM or Estimating route versus Field Supt as alot of those guys work there way up from laborers. I do know a few that graduated BS and went the Supt route, either way good to get paid to experience for himself and can make a decision based of experience when he graduates. There are alot of opportunities out there for a BSCI grad outside of the commercial construction industry that is pushed by the school as well.

Upon graduation I started as a Field EngineerLayout). Then Assistant Super. Did the field thing for 5 years. Then on to P.Mgt. The Superintendent route will make an Old Man out of you by the time You're 55.
