Ever heard of him? My Preacher in Opelika who is from Texas originally told as part of his Sermon about living next door to a guy who played on the same team with him at University of Texas. The neighbor spoke of how as a running back Earl was just brutally physical. I watched a couple YouTube videos of him playing....AMAZING!! He was 5'-11" tall....weighed 230 pounds....his thighs were 36" in Circumference! Some of those plays he just literally RAN OVER opposing players!! He was #34....same as Bo Jackson....bet there is a connection there. Couple times he would have 2 guys trying to bring him down and he would still get 3 or 4 extra yards. He went on to play for the Oilers.
You never heard of Earl Campbell? He set the first big bar for what everybody wants in a RB.

He's been in the NFL Hall of Fame for over 30 years and is one of the biggest names to ever come out of the State of Texas and was born in Tyler. Yeah I've heard of him.......

I saw an episode of Diners Drive In's and Dives the other day on Food Network and Guy Fieri had Earl Campbell with him going to Earls favorite Texas BBQ spot. I don't know if it was good but it dang sure looked good.

Wasn't that him that slid in the snow for like 30 yards in a playoff game with Pittsburgh. I remember that play and the one where they tore his jersey off trying to takle him and he just kept running. Was along time ago and that may not be him I'm thinking of on those two plays, but he was a beast
The Tyler Rose! I got to take a picture with him and he autographed it for me back in the mid 80’s. He was my idol when he played for the Houston Oilers. Earl, Stabler, and Billy “White Shoes” Johnson were something to see. Add Bum Phillips with his cowboy hat and personality pacing the sidelines to top it off. I don’t know how many times we’d take an old shirt, cut it down so it tear easy, and recreate the Earl Campbell run with the tear away jersey in the neighborhood. I still have some old Oiler memorabilia from that time stored away somewhere. I was hooked and it’s 90% because of EC.
