Point to me on the doll where the bad union folks touched y’all. Again, you guys pick and choose what freedoms you want to exist. If a union isn’t necessary then it won’t get voted in. If you don’t wanna unionize then shut the doors. Owners choice. Been a union member for 32 years and wouldn’t change anything. It’s much needed where I work. Everything we do is critiqued down to the second. Without the union there would be a revolving door of employees. You can hate unions all you want. But to say they aren’t needed in places is ignorant. Especially when you don’t know all the situations.

So you're saying we are picking and choosing what freedoms we want to exist while denying the owner of a business the freedom to choose whether or not they allow a union in a business THEY OWN? You are saying they do not have the freedom to operate a business as they see fit, just the freedom to shut the doors on a business they worked to build? Makes perfect sense.

That’s the part I’ve tried explaining to some union members. What right puts theirs before the owners. The way I see it the employees rights are they can leave if they don’t like the conditions

If he is talking about who I think he is, they are different animal all together and the union is the only thing that keeps that ship sailing. For instance if they are in any accident regardless of circumstances, they are fired on the spot. At least thats the way it use to be. It a strange structure that company has. You'll never see a fat guy doing that job for a reason.

You'll never see a fat guy doing that job for a reason. Your assumption is correct oakachoy. It’s a very strange structure there. Always has been. But it’s getting worse. They are trying to terminate guys now for not being able to step in the truck, put your computer in its cradle, put your seatbelt on, crank the truck, push your mirror out, look left down side of truck, and then be rolling, in 10 seconds or less. Time starts as soon as you are near the truck. But if they don’t get rid of the CEO, who continues to get huge raises while trying to run the business in the ground, then yes the doors will close on her watch. And we have one fat guy who’s been there since 87. He’s retiring very soon. Not because he wants to. He will be fired if he don’t. And yes. They do fire people. Not all stay fired but they don’t mind firing you knowing it’s not even an offense that warrants it. But the union has been there since the 70’s. It ain’t going anywhere unless the doors close.

Most all issues began when we went public with stock. Which the founder would have fired every management employee there if he’d still been alive for even mentioning going public. It was never meant to be ran by anyone who wasn’t a lifelong employee of the company. My how things have changed.

It was never meant to be ran by anyone who wasn’t a lifelong employee of the company. My how things have changed. Folks still can leave but understand why folks don’t. I’ve known numerous drivers for UPS and a few for FefEx. The ones driving the box trucks seem to do well and have some enjoyment but the delivery guys and gals have it rough. I see many young SMALL ladies and think how bad they’re gonna be broke down in the years to come. Figure they’re planning for a management position. I knew one driver that had a heat stroke delivering to businesses and he got shafted but was brought back. UPS or Fed Ex and yup it’s one of the things I’ve mentioned about how big business are run now dependent on their stock performance. Not sure if blue chip stock even exist now Ali look at a Kodak and how their demise was brought on by instant stock performances. Numerous CEOs and selling off profitable divisions made Kodak into a weak company who once was an industry standard to look to. If they didn’t pay so well they’d have to do better as a company. Projections are for delivery company’s to continue growing. Brick and mortar are beginning to be a thing of the past

I’ve never been an employee anywhere that had a union. I’ve heard good and I’ve heard bad. No personal experience, the coal mines rely on a union.

I never have understood why the union voluntarily quits working and then gets violent towards those people who are willing to work in their place. If you were that important to the company, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

This thread still going?

When some of you say "teachers' union," I assume you're not talking about Alabama since we don't have a teachers' union here. We have an association that attempts with only marginal success to help us and mediate with legislators, but we have no union. I've seen teachers who had tenure for years be fired and sent home right here at my school. Tenure is not a bulletproof protection; we have no union protection as public school teachers.
PoorCountryPreacher is correct in his description of the AEA earlier in this thread.

VT you and PCP are right about AEA. The damndest thing is that AEA wants teachers and school staff to vote for a bunch of different people who I am reasonably sure do not really exist. I have never met one, nor have I ever met somebody who knows somebody on the AEA board. But they want teachers to vote for those people, whoever they are.
