The state of Alabama has just purchased the Orange Beach toll bridge for 60 million dollars. Even though the state is building a new bridge just down on Canal Road.

Probably a good move for the owner since the state is building a new bridge.

I am guessing you are not aware of certain elements of this toll bridge situation. laugh

The bridge will become toll-free immediately upon the state acquiring ownership.

There is a catch to this somewhere. I hope they don't extend it to I-65. It will go straight through the middle of my hunting club it they do.

That will eventually happen but it is not in the current plan.

Tim James and a partner were the original owners of that bridge. If my memory serves me they sold it to a Canadian Group many years ago.

You dont need to worry Slippin'. You'll be long dead and gone by the time that happens. If it's like the 158 bypass from Saraland to the MS line, it'll take 25 years for them to make it up to I10 and then another 50 yrs before they finish connecting from 10 to 65. State of AL is beyond slow when it comes to road construction projects and environmental groups will be challenging every step of the process, from the design phase and every single time during clearing and construction when they get close to a wetland, crossing every creek, ditch, gum pond, or swamp head along the way.

One-way traffic only after the swap. One bridge is for inbound and the other bridge will be outbound.

Now the actual cost to the state and us taxpayers is about 360 million. This entire situation is a great example of how expensive and stupid things get when crony capitalism meets low paid government employees who get pissy about dealing with stupid bullsh1t that they created to begin with.

Dear Gov Ivey:

Can we please still charge all the MI, KY, IN, TN, IL, LA, MS & OK tags to offset the purchase price for Alabama taxpayers?

If so, then I recommend $60M each vehicle, toll to be imposed at the AL - TN line or they can't drive I-65 S or N

Nope, beauracracy, graft, and corruption would easily push it in the billion dollar range.

I forgot to mention, the $60M payment would be for right lane travel only on I-65, and only between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am. No left lane travel by anyone except AL residents
