Who’s got the new-style flat top indirect heat gas grills? Do y’all like those better than the traditional direct heat style? What brand/model do y’all recommend?

Yeah. I’m all about a blackstone types grill. You can get them super hot for steaks or very low for eggs

Blackstone style all the way. Get a dome and it’s pretty much same as gas grill

I saw Weber has came out with a griddle top to replace the grates and I’m about to pull the trigger on getting it.

I just got a blackstone. I like it so far but it heats uneven. I’m learning how to use that to my advantage.

Flattop griddle is definitely more versatile, but can’t completely replace a grill. If there was room for one and only one, it’d be griddle. There’s definitely a learning curve, getting used to the griddle's heat zones and intensity , but not too bad.

After getting one last fall, there are things I prefer on the grill, and those on the griddle. That’s why you need both!
I went with the Weber 36”. It seemed to be able to maintain lower heat and had a more consistent cooking surface with heat fairly even across the top. While it still has spots that get hotter than others, this isn’t nearly as pronounced as with my friends black stone. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, once you learn those spots.

I have a 36” Blackstone - we love it for quick meals (smash burgers, chicken breasts (spilt), stir fry, grilled vegetables,…etc).

Also have a Green Egg and Kamado Joe (steaks, pork chops, pizza, smoking,…etc).

I think it depends on the use case as to which best serves your needs.

Griddle has more cleanup and maintenance. They both have their place.

I’m sure you’ve seen the split grill/griddle? Little less cooking surface on both, but best of both worlds.

Give me the open grate gas grill any day.....I love my rib eyes getting kissed and cooked by the gas flames....yummmmmmm.... I have a griddle on my gas oven in the kitchen ...

Gas grill for a quick meal. Takes a little longer on the griddle to get it going and then the cleanup. We many times use both at the same time. Then we have the green egg for the smoking and cooking of steaks. Makes cooking a fun adventure when all of us are together!

Both a griddle and grill. Lump charcoal only for the grill though. Never been a fan of gas grills. Griddle is great for burgers! Charcoal for steaks.

My son has a small flattop griddle, he loves it.
I like traditional gas grill with lava rocks in the bottom.
Lava rocks make it cook more even and hold grease and smoke more like a charcoal grill.


Everything woke turns to shucks
