I am not sure who owns the land that swamp is on.We dropped the lease. What is strange is that some other guys picked it up after we let it go.They dropped the lease and left tripod stands, shooting houses and ladder stands all over the place. It was like they experienced something that made them leave everything .I have never personally talked to any of them but its sstrange that they would leave that much money behind. If any of you guys wanna go check it out here is how you find it.Go down 219 take a left onto 183 cross the little bridge and you will immediately see a left turn that takes you to selma.Almost directly across the road is a white doublewide with a dirt one lane road right beside it.If you go to the end of that road you are in that swamp.Just dont ask me to be your guide. It is private property so your on your own if you pay it a visit.I will say this and I'll leave it alone.I am not afraid of anything in this world except the fear of losing loved ones in my life but that night scared the crap out of me so bad that I have never forgotten it.It is forever burned in my memory

I grew up hunting in selma, my uncle is good friends with the owners of the southern sportsman lodge. He has guided for them on several occasions but this is abt stories from the other guides. They have had many......many grown men come out of one of their swamps back towards minter crying, hyperventilating, and overall scared to death. Most of the said the same kind of story. Could hear a two legged something sloshing thru the water and then hearing teeth chomping together like a Coon does. At that point I declared myself a ridge Hunter !!!!

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

Who needs all of that sissy gear? I'll smear potted meat all over me and sleep in my underwear under the stars, and drag a deer carcass in there with me. On October 31st grin

On second thought, I may possibly need a short sleeve shirt on October 31st, depends on the weather.

i had something weird happen one morning down that creek in the national forest. well about a mile to the east of the creek. if anyone has hunted that area and knows the forest, where you turn to the left off of 219 towards selma about 4 miles south of 183. you turn left go up the hill and veer to the right go about a mile and go past the hunters camp tak the next left and almost /2 thru that road is a woods road to the right out that road it forksand the left fork goes a little ways and drops into a big bottom where there is a big beaver pond.well that being said one morning was trying to get one to sound off and i kept hearing something coming down the edge of the beaver pond howling aout evry 50 yards or so. all of a sudden noting is singing no birds crows, nuthing. well about the time it gets in front of me it starts coming up the fire lane towards me.needlessly to say if that thing had come all the way up the hill and topped a berm of dirt i was going to kill it or at least shoot at it.it turned to my left and went up the hollow still howling every 50 yard or so. i left and went to another place still didnt hear a thing.
A few years later i was about 3/4 a mile straight across from where that happened and as i was easing up a road i heard something growling at me in the road, it did this a few times and i had my gun pointed up the road and it eased to my right and went away. never could see it with my mag light, of course didnt hear anything that morning either. i hardy ever hunt there any more hunt about 4 mie to the east now. and i talked to a guy i know who has said that where i hunt now he has had people come by him talking and never seen anybody. he says it was ghost.

The evening that I was bow hunting with OctoberDreaming, we were about 100 yards apart and on the hill above the "Famous" swamp. It's called Beaver Creek and it runs along highway 219 and goes under 219 when it meets 183. That evening something was breaking limbs and growling, just out of sight of my stand and this went on for about five minutes. When it stopped I waited about 10 minutes and climbed down and went to the club house. It was a hour before dark too. We found claw marks on a pine tree in that area the next year. crazy

I didn't realize the swamp area y'all have been talking about was located where it is. The club I was in, when I heard the roar in the swampy area behind me (see my first post above) is the same swamp area y'all area talking about.

He said find a big tree to sit next to and wait, the deer will come. So I waited a couple of hour then a heard something moving. Could ever see anything but heard it. I waited till dark hoping would get a glimpse of whatever it was. Never did and right as I was bout to get up I heard the strangest sound I'd ever heard. It made me think of those evil flying monkeys on the wizard of oz. This evil beast made a few more of hellish sounds. I stayed still for about an hour till I heard my friend calling me and then I ran. He laughed his you know what off when I described this awful sound to him. You might have guessed by now it was a deer blowing. For somebody that didn't know a deer could make that sound, it's pretty creepy. Heard it a couple of times since and it still kinda freaks me out. Guess that's why I love shooting them.

Same thing happen with my wife during her first deer season. I had her set up just inside the woods on the edge of a peanut field. I decided to get down before dark and start easing her direction since I knew she wasn't too comfortable being in the woods after dark. Well, as I get within 100 yards, I hear something trotting around in the woods right where I left her, so I stop and then hear deer blowing. I decide to ease behind a big oak and take a knee hoping to hear her shoot...well 15 minutes later and I've heard no shooting but am still hearing lots of blowing...so I ease in closer and whistle (which scares the deer off). My wife hollars out, "Come get me! There is something in here trying to eat me!!" I died laughing.

Don't think many of you fellers ever coon hunted as a kid.....alone.
One of the funniest stories I ever heard, guy told me he was up in a treestand well before daylight about 1/2 asleep. He's twitching around a little and a large Owl swoops in and latches onto his face! Said he didn't know who was scared most, him or the owl. eek

If you'll video the whole night with one of the night vision cameras like Survivorman uses and give me the video when you come out the next morning, I'll give you a very nice 2 man tent to use that you can keep.

Ive coon hunted since I could walk, I've always had loads of fun with folks that were scared of the dark, ghosts, boogymans or whatever. The only thing I'm afraid of in the swamp is a moccasin, if its dark you can't see 'em!

That being said, a screech owl that lets go right next to you will make anybody jump!

That ain't far from Outback's place. If there was any Booger around, Outback woulda already killed him with that big pistol of his. If somebody will get permission, I'll take my dogs in there and they will tree anything that will climb. If it won't climb, they won't pay any attention to it. I figure a booger oughta be able to climb. smile

I think all of these "stories" about this place are wishful thinking. It all started back when one person heard "something" and made it our to be way worse cause he psyched himself out. After that anyone that goes in has already done so with that in mind and starts hearing things that arent there. I wanna go in there with poorpreach and his dogs...and YEKRUT with a stick. See whats happens. grin

now if something eats one of his dogs, Ill leave and become a believer.
