They must have been big and went by dimensional shipping instead of by weight

What was it? How did you ship it?
Or; something you ordered online?

That might not have been the actual shipping cost then. That could have been just what they charged you for shipping. They can make good money off of shipping as well as the product.

Yeah even on ammo, I check shipping before I start shopping. Shipping can add up quick.

Actual USPS package shipping costs are actually quite reasonable. Shipping a 2lb 12oz package to a family member in Atlanta today, cost $6.
The online sites will stick it to you.

I have one online distributor that allows you to choose the service provider but you don’t know the shipping cost until it’s invoiced and charged. Even when you pick “cheapest way”, there is no attempt to package it the smallest way possible to save you money. The last shipment was full of packing paper and a box 1/3 the size would have worked. I hate to paint with a broad brush but I have to assume the people packing the orders could care less. No skin off their back. I’ve decided to only use them for desperation orders from now on.

I shipped a Marlin model 60 a couple weeks ago...USPS wanted $108 and change.
I ended up getting it shipped at a local FedEx retailer for $85.
Still high though. When I began selling on GunBroker I could ship a long gun to WA state for $35 with insurance

Were you required to ship next day service?

Nope ... Those were the slowest methods available from each carrier

I use PirateShip and print my own labels. Much cheaper than walking into the USPS or UPS and getting robbed with full retail ship prices. Many times it's half.

Yep, I use ShipStation. Save a lot.
