My neighbor was bitten by a copperhead while working in her flower bed. She ended up in the hospital and had a hard time.

I was tagged in Oct last year by small copperhead. Dry bite for the most part. Mild swelling and loss of feeling in that finger for couple weeks.

These rattlesnake bites been by canebrakes? Seems like the big diamond backs are less aggressive in my experience.

Mine was by a diamondback.

Rat snake as a kid in MS while playing on the feed sacks. Water moccasin hit my boot but never broke skin as a teenager out coon hunting in MS. Decays Midland Brown to the face while climbing on some rocks 12 years ago at Walls of Jericho...little bastage was laid up on a shelf and as I came up he popped me on the cheek.

The biggest largemouth I have ever seen was below that dam. Had to be 10 lb.s or close. Huge. No one ever caught it far as I know. Was laying next to the wall and I thought it must have been a carp but looked closer and it wasn't. Who'da thought?

My buddy was fishing at pelican point in south baldwin countny. Threw his cast net and thought he caught an eel. It was a baby cotton mouth. Reached in and got bit. Almost lost his finger. Then he found out his insurance that he had changed hadnt taken effect. He got a 90 thousand dollar bill for anti venin.

Yep, water moccasin at the base of my middle toe right foot. I stepped him under water about calf deep and he flipped around and bit me under water. Very painful for a few days. Four vials of anti venom so not a real bad bite,

I took a hit to the back of the ankle from a cottonmouth. It was a dry bite or the fangs did not puncture the back of my workbook though.
I was coiled under a garbage can next to a gate at a clients house. It was a chunky one about 3 feet long. I’ve had a number of close calls with copperheads but they weren’t aggressive.

Several years ago I stepped on a 3ft copperhead at dark going to feed my bird dogs and he bit me on top of my boot but didn't go thru the leather. I've caught some king snakes and they have got rid of the copperheads, I've seen a 3 1/2 ft kingsnake eating a 2 1/2 ft copperhead

Wait! But snakes can’t bite under water……

That’s the only snakes I don’t kill. Was about to shoot a pretty good sized one about 10 years ago, and when I got closer I noticed it had a copperhead tail sticking out of its mouth. Enemy of my worst enemy can be my friend. Evidently there’s a breeding ground in the hollow behind me, because I see small king snakes pretty often now, every year will see a couple bi kings, and rarely see big rattlers like we used to here.

However, during the toughest years of my life 2019-20 I was cutting pine trees and burning them just to have something to do. When I picked up a double handful of pine straw it felt like a big ole briar poked through my glove.
I walked over to the fire and chunked the pine straw in it, and there was a small rattler stuck to my finger. I pulled it off, twisted its head off and threw it in the fire. I had two holes in my finger, that drained clear when squeezed, then bled a tad but not much.
I thought it was going to bust open with the swelling, but it just hurt.
After consulting a couple dr’s in the fam, I ate a mess of Benadryl and washed it with betadine regularly for several days.
It swelled a good bit and is still numb on that finger.

Forgot I got bit by a rat snake on the hand in 10th grade.

was turkey hunting on cahaba wma several years ago, about an hour after daylight i was making my way to a gobbling bird. got to a smal branch just wide enough i could jump across the thing. i stepped in with one foot and immediately got with what i thought was a baseball bat about 4 inches below the top of my irish setter snake boots. it turned out to be a water moccasin just shy of 4 ft long. if not for the boots im sure i would not be here today, if i was id probaly have a missing limb. i was at minimum 2 miles from the truck and no cell service what so ever.

Had a moccasin bite at me few years ago on my property on Shades Creek. That set of underwear was ruined! I was walking with a shovel because I had stuck my buddies skid steer in the mud. I was walking around a flooded area that the beavers had created. I always wear snake boots but not this day. It was February but warm. Anyway, I either stepped on him or over him and he struck at my calf. I jumped up and pounded him with that shovel. Scared me to death! I haven’t been bitten but have been Hell on them my whole life! Rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, copperheads…hate all of them. Killed them with shotguns, rifles, pistols, machetes, shovels, blowgun, sticks, rocks, just whatever it takes! Hate those bastards!!!

I forgot about this. I think my brain has pushed this episode so deep into my psyche that I don’t hardly ever think about it because I was so terrified that day.

When I was in college, I scouted cotton/soybeans during the summers. I was in Sardis over in Dallas county one morning scouting a bean field and the beans were up to my waist and I could not see the ground or where I was stepping. For those of u who don’t know, when scouting beans, you have a canvas drop cloth with wooden dowels on each end. You spread the cloth on the ground between the rows and shake the beans over the cloth then then pick it up and see what bugs/worms fall on it. I was probably on my 2nd or 3rd field of the morning and stopped to make a check. When I knelt down to put the cloth between the rows I was face to face (like a foot away) with good sized rattlesnake that was laying in the row I was. He was already drawn back and I just reflexively threw the drop cloth up in front of my face and BAM! he struck the cloth right in front of my face! I screamed like a little girl and pretty much ran/stumbled back to the truck. I prob ruined a pair of underwear too. It was the only time I think I have ever had a panic attack. I was a blubbering mess and I just went home. I called my boss and told him I’d stay late the next day and finish the job as I had about a dozen or so fields left. He was pissed off that I left but I was in no shape to work that day. However, later that afternoon I got up with some fraternity brothers and we proceeded to do our best to cause a world wide shortage on Miller Lite.

I can still see that bastage pulled back in a “S” shape with that tongue flicking less than an arms length from my face. That’s the stuff nightmares are made of.

My Mom got bit by a small copperhead about ten years ago. Leg swelled up bad, but she recovered fun. No anti-venom, they told her the baby snakes were usually worse than the grown as the babies will dump their full load of venom in a single bite.

I’ve been struck at by a timber rattlesnake and a moccasin. Stepped on a black racer when I was a kid. I was barefooted too. That will make you soil your drawers. 😬

Been hit several times by black racers & a few rat snakes. They mostly just want out of your way. If I find one crossing the road, I pick it up and take it to the woods to let go.

Stepped on a timber rattler on time cruising (had chaps on) a tract in Clay Co. When I mean step, I mean right on him. Dog days of August, his eyes were glassed over. I jumped back, hollerd, screamed, testiified and a few other things. I took my crusing stick and tried to get him out of the way and every time I flipped him, he just rolled right back up. Never struck or rattled. Yes, I did throw those underwear away when I got home.
