So here’s a question for y’all……Lets say we have the scenario below where we have a 2,000 acre hunting club surrounded by a bunch of smaller parcels as well as a farmer with a depredation permit……The hunting club doesn’t shoot a single doe off of their place……meanwhile the famer and the surrounding small properties blast away and “fill the freezer” with does……Will the hunting club become overpopulated?? ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/QtFHlJk.jpeg) It depends on what the 2000 acre club consist of and so forth You’re trying to cram a blanket statement into a very broad statement “what if” and “it depends” hole. Like QDMA advocated for, you must adjust your goals with what is happening on your place. As an individual or collective is where you start. Instead your trying to cram a square peg into a round hole.

Here’s some questions what’s the::::::;…..,
Habitat and carrying capacity
What’s the fawn recruitment rate
What other predators and how are you dealing with them
There is so many what ifs and nothing but varying opinions trying to dictate an overall game plan.
Yeah that’ll work.
There was studies and I don’t know outcomes or whatever but the idea was that a growing deer herd that was below carrying capacity has the best potential for antler expressions in mature buck. There was something to do with social status and competition amongst a diverse age class of bucks. Also the same with does. Healthier mature does have triplets and for sure twins. Young does have a single fawn. So a diverse age and close buck to die ratio is the most desirable deer herd. That has been proven over and over. The rest is just blathering at this point.

I guess we will all see how smart CNC is when the doe kill numbers start going down in the next few years. But of course, we don’t know if they really went down, or if there was just less people reporting.
But if they keep climbing, then it will be that we are right on the cusp of a bubble burst and the deer market plummeting. Because everyone has a feeder in their yard and everyone shoots every deer they see.

Depends on how much pressure is on the club. If a doe gets popped every time one walks out into the farm land, of course they will stay on the 2000 acres. Especially if this is happening when no one is on the club property like during the summer.
Will they be over populated? That depends on what you consider overpopulated.
I know if 3-4 guys were hunting that 2000 acres, and they did it right to keep pressure to a minimum, the deer would thrive there if they went about it right. But if you pile 10 people on it, and they are there every weekend riding 4 wheelers all over the place… yeah it’s going to struggle. Man times have changed I reckon. When did putting 10 people on 2000 acres become piling em in?? We have more than that on 2000 acres and we see deer all the time.

I wasn’t saying you wouldn’t see any deer, I was just saying that pressure on the 2000 would definitely push more deer out to the surrounding properties. But yeah 200 acres per hunter is typical. I was in a club that had that ratio but one of our members owns about 260 beside it. It rarely gets pressure and he gets a lot more mature buck pics than we typically do. Not more mature bucks but more mature buck pics. Also one of the adjoining land owners is well off and he owns about 2k acres with no members hunting it. Just him and his dad. And they rarely kill. So there are a lot of deer that leave our property to live in his sanctuary for lack of better term.

Question #2………Let’s say we start up a DMAP program for our scenario…..Do I have to sign up every single square to see the trends that are occurring across the map over time?? Would half of the squares be enough?? ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/md9S728.jpeg)

Deer hunting isn’t deer hunting anymore. We are our own worst enemies. Started with getting rid of dog hunting cause other hunters didn’t like the way they did it. Now there are arguments and hunters degrading others cause they shot too small of a buck. You gotta let em grow they say. If you let em grow we will be killing 200 inch deer like they kill in Ohio. No we won’t. But if we change the laws so you only get one bucks then it’ll help. Yep it’ll help reduce the amount of hunters in the woods. One of em will be me. All this is tiring to an old man who just wants to hunt deer. I don’t kill small ones but that’s the choice I make. I don’t expect everyone else in alabama to think like I think. But a lot here seem to think we should do as they say and do. I don’t like corn. I wish it was still illegal. Won’t ever happen so I just choose to not hunt over corn. Same as everyone here can implement whatever restrictions they want to see on the land they hunt. But they won’t do it. They want everyone to be like them. So they beg for more government intrusion into their lives in deer hunting but turn around and scream there’s too much governmental control on everything else in their life. Crazy to me.

So there are a lot of deer that leave our property to live in his sanctuary for lack of better term. 200 acres per hunter is not typical in this state. Far, far from it. We prolly have 140 acres per hunter and I consider that to above average in this state. Our property gets hunted regular and we seem to kill mature bucks every year. It’s like everything else in hunting. People try to make it way too complicated. No pressure. Only hunt when the wind is just perfect. Wear your scent lock. Spray down with this scent. Amazing how my grandfather ever killed a deer cause he pressured the crap out of them. It ain’t about deer hunting anymore. It’s about who can kill the biggest bucks and brag about it to their friends and post on their social media. It’s the trophy syndrome and it appears to have overtaken deer hunting. Not saying this about you, PWYSE. Just ranting in general.

Something about like we had in the early 90’s along with a DMAP that could issue extra doe tags and depredation permits in areas where it was legitimately needed.
