I had to go look at my load of Varget when you posted it. Last box I loaded was Lapua brass, 250M, 150gr SST over 46.2gr Varget. Gives me 2850 out of a 21” Douglas. Here’s the best part, I loaded that box on November 22, 2009. Still have 7 rounds left. I shot that model 7 exclusively for over 10 years before I started getting other rifles. Funny how an old box of hand loads, a favorite rifle, and picture from the field can bring back so many fond memories. Y’all know I love the .308. Killed deer with one every year for over 25 years. All 3 bucks this year was killed with the 308. The new 308 really likes the Norma Elk 150gr. My old trusty loves the 165gr Fusions. I’ve killed trailer loads of deer with that thing and still take her out on a hunt every so often. The AR10 stacks the 180gr fusions nicely with the 16” barrel. Also it’s just a touch different but my 308 Marlin Express lever action is still one of my favorites also.
It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

Apparently a lot of armed forces around the world think the .308 is a good cartridge for killing people, and I'm sure they've done a lot of research on the ballistics. That's a pretty good endorsement if you ask me.
I have a Mossberg Patrol in 308 and really like it. It makes for a good Scout rifle.

I'll be toting one in about an hour. IMO, the case for the .308 was made decades ago and some of us were just late to the party.

Ive built several 308's and have found no greater appreciation for a cartridge than this little short action wonder
My loads consist of many bullet weights ranging from 130 up to 180 and only use two powders for them
I think it would be foolish not to have a 308 in your arsenal of deer rifles
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself

I have 3 and love them. Love the 7-08 too. Mt AR10 with a 16 in barrel is a fine woods or Greenfield gun.

Been a .308 fella for years have a couple of em.
Great hunting cartridge, I’ve killed a pile of deer and some good ones with simple blue box federal 150gr.
Extremely accurate, great terminal performance, easy to find various ammo and weights, inexpensive to shoot and it doesn’t punish the shooter.
The beauty of it is, when I hunt with my son, I can just hand the gun to my son and he can shoot it just like a like a grown man.
I have had quite a few kids hammer deer with my hunting set up, none of them have any problems shooting and don’t say a thing about the kick

I was raised on the 30-06 that I hunted with for twenty years. Then the 270 and 7mm magnum. I bought a 308 ten years ago and it’s the hunting rifle of choice now. I’ll give this one to my grandson and buy me another one.

On stand w one now. Always loved the 270 and still do but giving 308 a chance. My 308 bergara is 2 years old and shoots 150 grain norma well. Mine is short compact and light and only my second year to hunt w it and trying to get first kill w it. I like it!!

My custom built John Gallagher rifle is in .308. Love it. Killed this year's 9 point with it a few weeks ago. Fine caliber. Hunting with it this morning...

I have 30-06, and .280 , bought a Savage .308 this year and really like it, it's the lightest gun that I have right now and with the short barrel, it's ideal for me when I am climbing and sitting in treestands, I have killed two deer, 2 hogs and a yote with it so far.....I tried to shoot 150 gr remington core lokt in it but the gun was so erratic and wouldn't group at 25 yds using them, switched to 165 gr hornady whitetail and it drives tacks at all distances.....

yep best all around for deer. Iam gonna get out the steyr next year, no more misfire's and 4" groups from the Ruger american but even it drops em dead. impressed with the pro hunters heavy firing pin spring and bolt that doesn' ride up and down on you while walking, thats cost me two big uns.

Just got my first .308. I’ve overlooked it a good bit. I have a .270 (my first rifle) that I will never get rid of. It’s been my old trusted deer rifle. But now, it may take a back seat to the .308. This thing is a joy to shoot. No Creedmoor for me.

I have owned, and shot deer, with just about every cartridge made from .22 short hollow point to 50BMG......EXCEPT any .308. I don't recall even firing one at paper.....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
