Does anyone use them anymore? I been trying to go back to what I started on. Didn’t have a choice back then. Now the only blades I’ve used has come from Walmart. Not impressed at all with sharpness or life of them. If anyone else uses them what brand of blades are you using?
I’ve been using them for the last 6-7 years. Bought them from amazon with a 10 pack of feather blades. No telling how much money I’ve saves not buying the replacement blades for my Gillette handles.
I bought one of the Supply safety razors awhile back to shave my head with, the 4 blade razors would tend to leave bumps. I have also tried the pit bull electric shavers but didn't care for it.The safety razor did fine, but i was too impatient to use on my head as it takes alot more passes to get the contour of your head with the safety razor, i would have to go back over with a regular razor to hit the missed spots. I keep a beard so i cant really speak to how it does on the face. I would think the safety razor would be of value for someone who shaves daily as the blades are much cheaper than that of a traditional 3/4 blade razor.
I've tried a number of blades and Feather is still my favorite. Order a sampler pack from Amazon and try a few to see what works best for your particular razor and beard. I liked Astra too and there was a Japanese Gilette (Gillette blue I think) that I liked too.
Everybody's skin and beard is different so what works best for one person may not work for someone else.
Astra blades, here. Was using my grandfather’s old safety razor, but the folding wings mechanism finally froze up and got a new Muhle without all of the hoopla of the twist handle opening head…layer the blade between the head and baseplate, screw it on and go. It seemed like I was always adjusting the blade for even coverage on each side with the twist handle razor. If you haven’t used one in a while, don’t go with an aggressive head…or if you do, make sure you get a styptic pencil. You’ll need it until you get a feel for the angle needed to keep from nicking yourself. Once you get a better feel for the safety razor and comfortable enough to go with an aggressive head, you’ll get a closer shave with less strokes (less irritation). If you’re hamfisted, look at ones with fatter, longer handles. Ones that are too light or that have thin and/or short handles are harder to control with big hands. The weight of the razor should do the work for a close shave, not you bearing down on it.
I spend about $8.50 per month on blades... Dollar Shave Club $8.50 / 4 pack. Shave in the shower so my beard is soft and I can get a week out of a blade... maybe more.
Never looked back. Best deal going.
