What frustrates me about turkey hunters is they want exclusive access. They think its equitable to pay for a spot and then tell everyone else they can't hunt them, because its less days in season. Oh I don't deer hunt, I just turkey hunt, so I shouldn't have to pay as much..
Whatever. The bottom line is my seed bill is what it is, and I actually have to put more in the ground to account for what the turkeys consume before it germinates, and what falls to the ground when its done, that could be converted into regrowth. I still have to lime and fertilize based on acreage and soil tests. I still have to pay the same price for my lease.
The other thing is they don't want to see me come out during turkey season to plant, yet I need a head start because I need a good root system in place for the spring planting in case I have a really dry summer. If I wait until the second week in May to start field prep, I am behind the 8 ball.
I have some on my lease, but I am not locking everyone out for 1 person. Unless they want to drop $3-4K. Then have at it. But I am still going to come out and plant when I want to, because after all, our primary focus is deer.
