Guys - i was touting federal hybrid hunter 140 grain burger ammo here last year and i mentioned i was new to using them. The doe i shot at 90 yards this year had a big hole and blead great. Everything inside 95 yards - big holes. But on the 2 kills at further distances (130 yards) - i noticed very small holes. The 213 pounder last year - small hole (he was a bang flop). The younger buck i killed the other day - 130 yards - small hole - not lot of blood. But he only ran maybe 70 yards tops and it was a bad gut shot

If i was going to brag on a bullet - figured i would give all results. Still evaluating - but starting to doubt a little.

Also just purchased federal premium nosler partition in 150 grain for 270. Always used 130s for 270 until i started hybrid hunter 140 grain.

What grain best for 270? Also - all my shots like 140 yards tops unless on a road which i dont hunt much - road may be 180 yard tops

Regular old 130 grain Hornady interlock spire point has killed a ton of them for me. Some were bang flops and some were not but I found all of them.

Trying norma n my 308 at 150 grain. Shoots target well. Also got 150 grain nbt for 308 i will look at. 308 very new to me.

Predominantly hav hunted w 270 and seems 130 grain most popular. I trying heavier grains.

Was just curious what grain folks like for 270 and was just updating comments on burger bullet mentioned above

the best was the original Winchester Silvertips (not the ballistic ones) 130gr. 10 yrds to as far as you could accurately shoot it would absolutely destroy a deer .But unfortunately they quit making them years ago

Don't tell my buddies BERGER Hybrid hunters don't work or they will have to let all those elk, mulies, speed goats, and whitetail they killed at 500+ go gun

Back in the day when I could get them, my favorite was 100gr corelokts. Now I shoot 130 gr Norma’s.

I've used Berger's for years now. Huge exit wounds. It's also fun to see others at camp scratch their heads when you dig through the hair and show them the tiny entrance hole.

No offense, but I’d be trying to shoot more accurately rather than worried about bullet choice. Anything mushrooming ammo in 130 grain will kill the deer fast and deadly. Just gotta hit him in the vitals.

Now if I was you I’d stay with 130 grains, that 2800plus fps is a good thing on them 130s.

The difference in velocity between 95 yds and 130 yds is about 60 fps... not enough to make a difference.

Are you shooting behind the shoulder or in the shoulder? With a gun, I always aim for the shoulder. I want to hit bone and also take out nervous system. Sometimes, when you shoot behind the shoulder, bullet will just punch through with only a little expansion

My opinion:
Shot placement. Hit them broadside in the pump house and there is small chance of having issues.

Barnes TTSX. I've used a bunch of different stuff but nothing I've seen is as dependable TTSX. I lean towards the smaller stuff; 260, 25-06 7mm-08. But In 308 I run 150's. I took a bad quartering to shot last week on a 200+ lb buck with the 25-06. But, I trust the round. He went around 50 yards and piled up.

You specifically said shot was back and in the guts. Won't really matter what you shoot you won't get much blood.

Thanks for replies

They all died quickly from what i could tell - last deer was my first bad shot with them that i remember and not sure he went 70 yards. I no expert - far from. Wondered why some holes big and some not and since i sang their praises then seeing small holes later - thought i would mention. I dont know - but would think - if shot in shoulder or the gut - u still should get big hole either place and 40 extra yards should not mean squat my simple mind would think!!

Very impressive Bhammedic

Until I start loosing deer (which I won’t), my family uses Winchester ballistic tips 243, 7-08 and 308 and 300BO sst, and I use Hornady whitetail in my 7-08 for woods and thick cover hunting. I can swap Hornady whitetail 140 and Winchester ballistic tip 140 in my 7-08 with no dif in trajectory at all. We haven’t lost a hit deer in forever, I can’t even remember the last one. The one I shot last year and didn’t kill was 💯 on me and not the bullet.
We all have our favorites, but I’ve never seen damage like a ballistic tip will do.
FYI, there’s a lot of good bullets out there now especially.

I use Hornady outfitter 130 grain cx. I shot one the Friday before Christmas around-80 yards, 1/4 to me , he went 20 yards and flopped. I also use core-loktw 130 grain. Happy with both
