I think much of this wolf reintroduction is about destroying hunting opportunities.
1) Helps to reduce people 2nd amendment push
2) Increases rural people's dependence on factory farms This, the less hunting in the country the easier it is to sell gun control. As people get out of farming they have to depend on corporate America for food. It's all about control
