True story. I know a guy recently who accidentally caught a dog in a leg hold trap and he tried his best to find the owner without any luck. He tried to do the right thing and he called the police/dog catcher to come get the dog. Dog bit policeman and got loose. No good deed goes unpunished. This is why a trapper is supposed to have a catch pole with him when he checks his traps.

No need for a catch pole if ya got a .22. If a dog got caught in one of my coyote traps I would assume it’s identifying as a coyote and treat it accordingly. Would not want to be politically incorrect.

I certainly don't care how you handle the problem, but be aware that in Alabama, if you SSS like so many advise you to do, then you could be charged with a crime and depending on the DA it could be a felony of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, so if you go that route, my advice is to not get caught or make sure you can convince someone that they were a danger to you or someone else.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
