Anybody got a 742 Woodsmaster 30-06 with the 22" barrel stuck back somewhere? Just needing a barrel, figured someone has one laying around with a busted bolt.

I found a place a few years back that done them for the 742 , 7600 , ect . Can't remember where now . Seem like I remember the barrels be about $250. I get a chance I'll see if I can find them again. I was looking for a savage bolt action at the time

Remington going under was the worse thing to ever happen in the gun industry . Not really.....the quality of the firearms slowly did them in. At least now folks won't be tempted to buy new junk.

If you find a barrel, be sure to check the headspace with your bolt. It may or may not be in spec.
I'd try to find a barrel and bolt combo from the same gun if possible.
That makes the search much more difficult though

That makes the search much more difficult though no doubt he changes the barrel a gun smith needs to do it . id have him check the chamber to see if it pitted too .

I've worked on a pile of those things and I think maybe 2 didn't have rust in the chambers. Fortunately I was able to polish out all but 1 and get them back in service. The 1 was so bad it was sold for parts.

Gundoc, if the headspace is a bit too deep couldn't you face off the reciever side of the attaching lug? If it is too shallow, a finishing reamer would clean it up, yes/no??
Remember: It aint what you shoot...it's how you shoot it.
