Was reading through this amazing thread and saw your comment Geno. I think you were trying to be humorous but I think you hit the nail on the head and it is very sad. That buck had probably observed others being let out of the small pen and saw their fate. I bet he desperately wanted back into his safe space much like a dog and his crate. I am no PETA type, but that's just sad.

In all fairness to him, I believe he was from south AL. Compared to what we have, Pelham is mountainous and since Montevallo is the center of the state, Pelham is technically North Alabama laugh
