Has anyone ever read the Alabama hunting and fishing regulations? Under protected species it reads: There is no open season for bear, mountain lion (cougar) and ruffed grouse. The fact the state says they are protected means ? Anyone can fill in the blank with whatever they want!

They never saw one so theres none here. That is their reasoning. Its all about them. Has nothingbto do with any evidence or testamony. Its all about their own arrogance

You are 100% correct when you say, they more than likely saw a big black cat, and just called it a black Panther!

I was working in panama city one time. After work we'd ride back to the shop in the company truck for a good hour and a half. Then I'd get my car and drive home another 45 mins. Anyways, halfway between PC and Dothan the driver (perfectly sober) says " Did you see that albino deer on the side of the road?" I had seen what he was talking about. I said "hell yeah it had horns too" He was so excited about seeing the albino spike. Went on and on. Then he decided he was gonna turn around to look at it again. Wanting to get home I told him it was a goat. He was confused and didn't really believe me. I assured him I saw it good and it was in fact a goat and asked him if he saw the fence. He did. As broken hearted as he was, he kept driving. The next morning on the way to PC, when we got close. I told him to watch out out for the deer crossing up ahead. He rolled his eyes. But honestly, deep down, he held out hope, until he seen the goat pen with the rest of the goats that morning.

This is what happens 99.99% of the time these sightings occur. Then people get mad because they assume your calling them a liar, when they truly believe they saw, what they THOUGHT they saw!!!

Just to make a point… had this picture a couple weeks ago and it really looks like a mountain Lion.
HD photo shows clearly that it’s just a deer, but some would’ve sworn it was a Lion without the HD photo. 99.9% of sightings are just people mistakenly identifying another animal.

I do think we likely have transient cats moving through the state on occasion but not enough to legitimize every “sighting”. I found claw marks about 7.5 feet up a tree back in the summer in Marion County. I’ve heard of cats being documented being born in the Dakotas, moving through Canada, and getting hit by cars and killed in the NE United States.

Possible but not as common as the proposed sightings. I will venture to say we definitely don’t have any melanistic jaguars.

Kinda like that time I argued for months with some guys about a horse that had stripes. They kept saying I was seeing things yada yada yada. It so happened one day we were driving by and I saw it again plain as day. Made them go back and they got to see the stripes for themselves. Well they got to eat crow. We were looking at a zonky of all things. Plan and simple to see but denied it being so until pointed out directly and finally in plain sight.

Technically it wasn’t a horse so there’s that but it did have stripes and was similar to a horse. 😂

Just pointing out some things are true though most won’t believe it.

As far as misidentifications, it is the bulk of reports. Reading post by guys here, the mtn lion sightings have spawned of 40 years and most, if not all, saw one only once. So that does make it more believable.

The one I saw was a little bigger than a bobcat, in plain sight and my BIL sighting in the passenger seat seeing the exact same thing. A long tailed cat that was a solid brown color. My friend saw it the the evening before and we
Didn’t time called Jerry to tell him and he had to tell me something he said. I then told the guys at the sporting goods store and one of the hues hunted in a club close by. The preacher man other club said he saw 2 and the followed him back to the truck and had him scarred to death.

There is 4 people that saw the same thing within a week of each other and no one was influenced by one or the other. We never saw any before or since so there ya go.

One more thing. If you’ll watch, cats move in a more distinct movement than a dog. A cats shoulders are higher up on its back and its rear legs are more rounded and larger. A cat kinda slinks along and pause and freezes quickly. A dog lumbers along more so and less fluid in motion.

A cat is made pounce on its prey, a canine is more cumbersome in its gait and attacks more directly. Their movements are very distinct and different than each other.

Could very well be a Black Jaguar or it could be a Maine Coon. Regardless, as rare as it was, it was caught on video good enough to almost tell what it is. Yet in Alabama, still waiting on a good pic, video, road kill, track......even though apparently everyone has seen one.

Probably a black house cat. Don't know where you get this 120lb BS. As per usual there is never anything for a sense of scale in these videos. But the fact you are willing to instantly believe that animal weighs 120 lbs from that video doesn't boost my opinion of your animal identification skills. Besides that is Arizona not Alabama. Arizona borders Mexico and Mexico has jaguars which can be black. Alabama doesn't have jaguars and isn't anywhere near Mexico.

Man some of y'all must not look at or take many pictures. Things way in the background (ie the cat in that video) look way smaller than they really are, and things closer to the camera look larger than they really are. That cat is way off and looks pretty dang big. That's a big cat and unless that is a doll house in the foreground of that video, and it's right up against that camera, it dang sure isnt a housecat. LOL.
