What is the chance that the buck is still in the same area in the future? My buddy shot at a 150+ this weekend at about 50 yards and couldn’t find any evidence of a hit. He has been around for years and been a bruiser for several.
Have y’all had luck hunting the same area and killing a specific buck after he was shot at? Or do y’all think that deer is in the next county at this point? This all happened in the middle of his property with a couple of hundred acres on both sides of the location.

I missed one on a road a few years ago at 350 yards on a rushed shot that I shouldn't have taken (Got caught with my pants down looking at my phone as he was crossing). I killed him two days later standing in the same spot.
With that said every deer reacts and acts differently. Each one is as unique and different as any human you encounter. He may be there waiting on you tomorrow or you may never see him again.

How hard did your buddy look? It could be dead unless you have it on camera after the "miss".

Bucks react to scent, movement and human activity negatively. If all that happened was a loud 'BOOM" with dirt flying close by, then you should be fine. Deer don't equate a shot from a rifle with humans, unless they see the human.

If that buck is on his land this early I'd say that's within his home range. He will be back as long as pressure doesn't change that

I can’t say much to the guy. About 20 years ago I missed a good 125” deer at about 30 yards. I rushed an untraced shot and anticipated the kick. I was able to recover some hair and small pieces of brisket. It changed my process when I’m going to take a shot from then on. Tough lesson to learn but it happens.

Deer are individuals. There’s no way of knowing how one deer will react or adjust to that experience.
The larger issue to resolve is getting your buddy to capitalize on opportunity when it’s presented. 😂

The larger issue to resolve is getting your buddy to capitalize on opportunity when it’s presented. 😂 Agree.....I have always believed that you really only get 1-2 chances to kill a good buck every year no matter where you hunt and making each opportunity count is a must.......

I missed one years ago, sat there for about 15 minutes knowing that I missed. I couldnt believe that i missed a chip shot like that. Next thing I know he walled right through an opening about 75 yds away. I made up for it on the second shot.

Your buddy needs to learn how to shoot and yes he will be back in a few days, maybe sooner
