Changing laws and regulations based on sound data is fine IF necessary. Doing it because a little group doesn't like scopes on muzzleloaders, or turkey decoys, or because they shoot one buck and "no one needs more than one!" is wrong.
Just hunt and fish and leave everyone else alone.
I like to hunt them year around, over bait, hens or gobblers (poults in summer) as many as I want. Should I just be left alone? Of course. You'll eventually get got by The Man or run out of birds, since our decoy-stressed population is dwindling. A 10-day season moved out of peak breeding times with hunting only from sunrise to noon, and a 1-bird limit of 8-inch beards or better probably would go a long way to helping rebuild the population. Not a bad idea. Quality Turkey Management ... let 'em go so they can grow!

Definitively prove, without any doubt and not anecdotally, that decoys negatively impact the resource.
Use data from before and after approval here and/or other states.
They work sometimes and other times they don't.
I'd bet there is no data, other than estimated harvest totals, that would or could prove it for our state. Maybe for any state, even with tags and check-in.
Decoys are more of a pain in the ass than a definitively negative impact on turkey populations. Just putting a decoy in a field or road doesn't automatically guarantee that every bird is going to come on a rope to ie. Some will, some won't.
Banning them won't make a difference in the overall population. It would only make some hunters feel good about getting them banned, and then they'd move on to the next thing they hate to get that banned.
If any data definitely, and not "aw, you know it does" proves it's a detriment, fine. Have the discussion. Let's see the data and proof. Otherwise it's just coffee talk. Or worse, the "well, we might as well do something to see if it helps!"
Isn’t Aldeer mostly Coffee talk aside from the classifieds? Hard evidence would be hard to find, but if decoys were banned Rick wouldn’t kill those 3 evening time powerline birds.

I can’t believe no one else has mentioned it, but while we banning, let’s ban the ground blinds.

All the talk in the deer thread has me thinking about the flaws in the turkey woods.
1. Decoys are basically the crossbow of turkey hunting. The use of decoys should be banned completely to give the advantage back to the dominant gobbler.
I disagree. It sounds like all you hunt is pastures.

I don't really have any skin in the game, though. All I hunt is woods. Most of the time if he is close enough to see the decoy he's already in gun range...

If decoys helped you kill more turkeys I’d be a really good turkey hunter. I don’t think they help at all. I quit using them. I killed a few with them but not many.

I hereby declare from this day forth, any man who doth willingly choose to enter the turkey woods from a week to a month in advance to go to his “listenin’ spot/tree” should be drawn ‘n quartered and all future turkey tags removed from them immediately.
Furthermore, ipso facto presto chango, as of this day Nov18, 2023, only landowners will be allowed to hunt and kill turkeys. All public land and WMA’s will be closed to the pursuit and harvest of the Eastern Wild Turkey and leased property will no longer qualify for any legal turkey harvest.
Exceptions to these new rules can only be made in the form of cash payment for your necessary permits. Email all permit requests directly to:

Turkey hunters are the ONLY true hunters and it’s so pure. No way a turkey hunter would ever consider baiting a turkey. That’s impossible. It’s all about “the game” and woodsmanship. Nobody would ever bait turkeys. 🥴

I don’t use decoys, personally had more negative experiences with them than positive. But I don’t think the issue is how we kill them, it’s how many. X amount of dead birds is x amount no matter how they die. I’d rather see a bag limit change. Of course this is only effective if you can police it.

Knocking the dust off this one…….Wheat straw. My technique is spread it in the dirt road not far from where you park. No need to walk far. It helps with fixing mud hole and erosion. Perfectly almost legal. Limb shooting is fun but the pellets fall back on you. Decoys Lives Matter. Tuned in.
