All the talk in the deer thread has me thinking about the flaws in the turkey woods.

1. Decoys are basically the crossbow of turkey hunting. The use of decoys should be banned completely to give the advantage back to the dominant gobbler.

Spot on. Also turkey limit should be dropped to one bird.

Lost me at dominant gobbler. I'd be fine with no decoys but don't start that DGT chit

Decoys definately make it easier for novice hunters.

For those that use decoys, what is your setup? Are you setting up on a green field or strut zone and trying to call birds to to you, or are you carrying them in the woods and trying to put them out once you find a bird?

Set em up in the trash can and hunt from the couch

I have one particular field that I use a 1/4 jake decoy to draw a longbeard into gun range. My thought is that if I get him to commit to my calling enough that he gets to the field or can see out into it, I want him to see something. This is the only place I use them anymore. The decoy stays in the shooting house because I’m damn sure not lugging it around the woods. A clear departure from me as a novice hunter setting up decoys every time I sat down.

Tell us you use decoys without saying it….

I think decoys, shotguns, calls, waterproof boots, chewing tobacco, 9 irons, barbed hooks, thermal scopes, smokeless powder, 401K contributions, ham sammiches, corked bats, modified chassis, live scopes, and magazines that hold 30+ rounds should all be banned from Turkey hunting.

A decoy is just another thing to use or not use. They work sometimes. Other times they don't.

Putting a shiny Coke can on a stick in a field often works just about as well as a fancy decoy.

Too much "No one needs ..." and "They outta be banned ..." and "Hunt my way or ..." bullchit going on.

Just hunt and fish and leave everyone else alone.

That’s just a bullchit argument though in reality……Just like a I wrote above…..There has to be a line in the sand somewhere…..There is no reality where everyone just gets left alone to do as they please……There will always be a debate about where we draw the line…..If the line is drawn in a place where its negatively impacting the resource then we are justified in discussing whether the line needs moved.
