I have read about y’all talking about it.. is that what you are supposed to legally use. Where you get it how do you apply it? The loggers cut the land behind me and flagged the lines with a little of mutual agreement a time or too.I want to paint it where my kids will know

It takes the place of No Trespassing signs. Poachers can't tear the paint off like signs. I've always contended , it shouldn't matter the color, but I didn't get a vote.

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

I think the color is because other states implemented purple paint prior to Alabama so for consistency reasons it made sense to stick with purple.

If the landlines are clearly marked there should be ZERO color requirement. Purple, Blue, Yellow... there is no difference when painted in the effectively the same manner. This law is a joke and not serious.

There's a good reason for the specific color for posting the land. It doesn't just show where the boundary of the property is. It posts a warning against trespassing.

There aren't as many landowners these days as there used to be that allow the public to enter without permission, but there are still some. The law still requires land to be either posted against trespass or gated and fenced if the landowner doesn't want people to enter it unless they have been warned in person. The crime is still called "trespass after warning". for prosecution. Lots of folks get that mixed up with the law that requires permission for hunting. If you're not hunting, the law is on your side for entering undeveloped property that isn't posted against trespassing without permission.

It dates all the way back to the common law "open fields doctrine" before landowners got so stingy with their lands. I've seen the difference take place in my lifetime. That's how fast it has changed. When I was a kid, there were thousands of acres of undeveloped land where no permission was necessary to enjoy going there to pick berries, swim in creeks or just enjoy God's Creation.

2Dogs said it best. It takes the place of No Trespass signs. No more excuses about signs not there. I guess if you are colorblind and can't see purple you could try that in front of a Judge.

Easier and cheaper than putting up a bunch of signs on large properties.

I don’t think landowners got “stingy” as you say. These scumbag trespassers starting suing landowners when they got hurt trespassing their land and won. Don’t blame a man for protecting what’s rightly his, blame the scumbag trespassing law breakers and their ambulance chasing lawyers

"I guess if you are colorblind and can't see purple you could try that in front of a Judge."

"There are only a handful of colors that show particularly well in the outdoors. Blaze orange obviously comes to mind first, but purple also shows itself well in a natural setting. In fact, it's also one of the few colors colorblind people can easily identify, making it an optimal choice for marking important landmarks. This is especially important in the woods where everything sort of blends together, as you don't want people to miss "no hunting" or "no trespassing" indicators on private land.

Back in 1989, Arkansas instituted the "purple paint rule" as a way for private property owners to effectively and efficiently post their land. By 1997, Texas adopted the rule as well."

If you decide to use paint, go the extra effort to prep the bark instead of just slapping some paint on the trees. I had crews repaint miles and miles of lines in my paper mill days and those that were properly scraped the first time were in way better shape than the ones that weren’t.

If you've read the case law, you know trespassers have to be subjected to known hazards to win such lawsuits. The law is written in favor or the landowner who allows entry into his property as long as he takes reasonable care to eliminate known hazards. You 'enter at your own risk".

Most of the thousands of acres of undeveloped lands I'm referring to are owned by companies instead of individuals. So it's not as simple as you put it.

Many years ago we were allowed on wheat fields in Arkansas that didn’t have purple markings. Especially sneaking on snow geese and was east to figure it out with out knocking on doors. Farmers wanted them killed because they could ruin a wheat field in a few days.
