I have a mountain bike that I am thinking about painting it and using it for a hunting bike to get back off the beaten path when on public land mainly. Does anyone on here use one to turkey hunt with? I think it would be helpful when no driving is allowed and it would allow you to cover a few miles pretty quick and with little effort. I know it would also be a quiet way to move around my big leases and allow me to hear a gobble if nearby while moving around.

I also think that it might be the ticket to FL for me this year by allowing me to get 5+ miles off of the beaten path and back to where there is less hunting pressure. What do ya'll think, besides a big seat?

I think its a good idea. I do think you are a little misled with the "little effort". Whether its on foot or a bike, going up hills will be rough unless you are traveling roads the entire time. Trails, creeks, etc i would think would pose a challenge. Fl however being as flat as it is the bike should be the ticket. Go for it and let us know how it goes. You might have us all biking around the woods this spring.

You getting a two seater for you and n2deer or one with a sidecar?

My leases have good chert roads, hard as a rock really, and nothing that you couldn't climb on a bike hill wise. I think it would work good.

I got the bike idea off of a FL website and think I will give it a try there this year.

Do they make a side car for a bike?

I was reading in one of Tom Kelly's books where he started using a bike and wished he had done it 40 yrs ago. I guess it all depends on where you are hunting whether or not a bike would be a big benefit. The last couple clubs I have been in I wouldn't have been able to go far before having to get off and hoof it.

When I was in better shape we hunted in Rome, GA at Berry WMA (Berry College). All the gates remained closed all season and we bowhunted on mountain bikes and got those little kid trailers that hook behind the bike to carry our stand, bowcase, and haul deer out...That was the fun days.

I have done this a time or two on WMAs in Demopolis. Never hunted them much, but that is the ticket if you don't want to go by river on a couple of tracts.

I don't care how good of shape you get in that would be a tough ride.

They're pretty easy to hide when you're poaching too.

I thought it sounded like a good idea too and tried it one morning this year. Unless you've got good roads and they're flat, its more work than its worth. I think I pushed the bike more than I rode it.

My son has outgrown his Johndeere bike if you need one,No Charge I just wanna pic.. The bike idea will work though,unless your in my area with the slightly sticky mud.For deer hunters less scent upon entry and exit,heck I forgot your doing it for a dang ol' turkey. :p

I have used a bike in the past if the tract has a good road system. You can hear a turkey in the distance and be on him like stink on chit in a matter of minutes with a bicycle.

Be warned! Ride it a bunch before season. It don't take long for "chaffing" to start!! My dad hunts off his bike a bunch and I thought hell it can't be that bad. I was wrong! After about an hour, I threw the damn thing in the bushes and just walked. Get a fat girl seat and a light for the front. Washouts are hell before daylight!!!

Before I got married I used to ride about 100 miles a week, I need to get back in that shape again and this might help motivate me. I still ride stationary in the garage when I get a few minutes here and there.

I have used a dual sport motorcycle for the last few years, especially out of state

Used one back when it was Thomas WMA, worked great on getting to the back of a TT fast.

true story, dang near ran over 2 guys one morning in the dark, they were freaked out at my light coming on so fast and quiet didn't have a clue they were there til I about hit them

we became pretty good friends after that

I almost bought one this year just for turkey hunting. I was going to have it camo dipped so I could just ditch it when getting close to a bird. I couldn't justify the price of a new one so I may try to find a used bike for next year.
