With the lack of rain, it looks like we might wait till late October to out seed in the ground.

2 years ago we were in the same dry conditions, didn't plant until almost November. It turned out fine. Looks like we won't be planting any time before Oct 20 or later. Fields have been ready for weeks but ground is bone dry. By the end of Oct, if we haven't had good rain, we'll plant and pray for rain. We'll get some eventually. No way anything planted is coming up without rain, so the seed will be good until it comes up after some rain. I get to a point where I just want to be done with it.

When I hunted in Abbeville, there was a year we planted the last weekend in November. It was BAD dry, but we got good moisture in December and everything was fine.

Looks like this year. They say no rain for the next couple weeks. I got a field down in a creek bottom that stays damp and a little shady that I planted the other day and its coming up. Clover is looking rough.

I have planted many times Thanksgiving. Fields looked great. Prefer mid-late October just because I want to be hunting not planting.

I am hunting first day of bow season so everything needs to be planted by then... we tried to cover it good this year so it can wait in the soil until rain comes. But I am hoping the weather man is wrong and a nice storm rolls in this week... haha!
