Dont know what brand this is but I'm trying it. Have 2 of them. Looks like they hold around 600 pound

Edit: same one tdog is talking about really liked them. I switched to spinners because the deer were eating me out of house and home!

I use a Moultrie 300 pound feeder withe the gravity attachment on it and it works good for me. I did have to use leg extensions to get it up high enough to keep the hogs from reaching them though.

Well.... sounds like I need to go with a spin cast feeder. We don't have a huge deer population though. I also don't want squirrels chewing up my feeder. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I use an older model moultrie gravity feeder right outside the back door of the camp complex. It’s no longer found under moultrie but Wildgame Innovations and others have the same type branded. It holds 225# and the corn filters out of three holes onto a plate about 2 feet off the ground. A filling usually lasts 10-12 days. It’s usually empty when I’m up next.
I keep two 300# spin feeders going also. I only have to top them off once during the season. They spin at 7:30am and 3:30pm and throw about 1.5# at a time.

My wife bought me a spin feeder for our anniversary, haven’t put it out yet so I can’t really comment. I’ll let you know in a week or so how it works out.

If you have a good deer heard do yourself a favor and use a spin head. I just swapped all of my boss buck gravity heads out. I can’t afford the amount of corn they were eating

Like already said, gravity feeders can get expensive in buying corn. Especially if you get pigs in the area. I like spin feeders because I dictate how much corn they get. Now the bears on our lease will tip them things over whenever they want.

Believe I have tried about every style there is. They all work but I keep finding myself pouring it out on the ground. Not in piles. Broadcast it out by hand. You are going to feed the coons regardless what feeder you use. But if that is the route you want to go. Just build you a big covered trough.

I still haven't decided what to get. I keep bouncing back to the gravity feed, even though you guys have very valid reasons for not using them.

We have a very small deer population. I figure I could feed, free choice, and not use more than a ton of corn from now until mid February. I poured 100 lbs on the ground, in front of my camera Saturday. They're eating from it frequently, but haven't even begun to make a dent in the pile.

Go with the gravity untill you cant afford it. I kept one going for two years and i really believe it increased the number of deer hanging around close. Steady feed they like will keep them close. If you can keep them close you can keep the baby makers from getting killed

That's my plan. I don't want the does shot. At this point though, I don't know if we even have a sustainable population. I had pictures of one yearling last year. I have not had a single picture of a doe with a fawn this year. Coyotes and yard dogs are apparently wiping all fawns out. I have a group of 5 does that come to the corn pile. It's not hard to feed 5 deer.

When we started hunting here again, some days i would see three deer. Some no deer. I worked hard to convince people around here to quit shooting does. I started feeding all i could. Its not uncommon for me to see 25 or more in an evening. Joseph has set in a treestand and saw 20 deer in a morning. We definately have more deer and every deer around are comingbto our foodplot in the evening. We have too many does now and will have to start killing some. If you keep food available they should stay close by. You can make the herd bigger but doe killing neighbors will work against you. If you can get a few neighbors on board, you can get the population up in 3-4 years.

If you go with gravity I’d get it up as soon as possible might take them a bit to come around to it

Deer different - some take to it quick - some dont - takes time. I always put corn on Ground around it to to help them come to it - 1-4 pounds just throw by hand

I like gravity best - works bettr - cost more and as others said - pouring on ground deer are most comfortable with - i use and like gravity - expensive - may switch n time - get it out asap so they get use to it

Do keep in mind that corn is not really “feeding” deer. Corn provides starch and carbs and scant other nutrients. It’s cotton candy. Nice to eat but not good in large quantities. This is part of why I meter my property’s corn availability and am concentrating on providing year-round nutrition.
