I work at, and deal with heights, every single day and have for over 20 years. I’m not doubting anything y’all are saying but one thing I’ve learned through my career, is MOST folks can’t estimate heights for anything. What most folks will swear is 30’ tall is usually about 15’. Unless one has a measured length of pull rope, as mentioned above, that confirms the height they are climbing, they usually aren’t climbing nearly as high as they are guessing. You're right, I probably use to only climb 10'.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

When i range the ground, I stop t 10-12 yards. I have gotten a little anxious in the wind , but it usually isn't that bad in a good climber on a big tree with a harness. Did come down quick one day when I realized after climbing a tree in the dark opening morning one year, the tree had died. I didn't check it in daylight before hunting it - have not taken that chance again.

Looked at an old one yesterday. Counted 25 total 2x4 rungs on ladder. Looked like 21 or 22 to the platform.

I had a buddy who had a stand in bullock county back in the 80’s that he called the “Crow’s Nest.” It was 50ft at least with 2x4s up to it. It was in an awesome spot, a hardwood strip between two pastures that pinched down like an hourglass and deer used it like a highway. He killed some studs out of it. I hunted it once. No safety strap. That was it for me.
