Do a little research into the origins of Western medicine. As soon as John Rockefeller realized the potential of petroleum based treatments, he effectively bought out all the medical colleges in the country and forced them to teach his form of medicine, known mostly for blood letting, despite not being a doctor in any capacity. He also founded the AMA to control all licensing and effectively control the medical industry he sought to create. There were people that were put in jail for teaching anything other than the Rockefeller approved practices. He was successful in discrediting anything other than the philosophy that drives western medicine today; treat the symptom as if it were the disease. Meanwhile, the vast majority of medical doctors now do nothing more than prescribe a petroleum based pill to every patient that walks through the door. They can't even cure the common cold.

We spend more than any other country on healthcare yet we are more unhealthy than ever as a country. Western medicine is sickcare rather than healthcare.
The movie "Dallas Buyers Club" (true story) does a great job of illustrating why the FDA exists to push products for Big Pharma while regulating any potential cures/treatments that may be easily accessible and cheap out of the market through threat of legal action.
