I’ve only ever shot one 28 gauge in my life (with TSS). It kicked worse than a 20 gauge, but it may have had a lot to do with the particular gun.

this almost certainly had to do with the huge payload in most 28 gauge TSS shells. there all shooting over 1oz and some as much a 1 3/8 ounce. that quite a more than most 12 gauge target loads. It doesnt matter what gauge the shotgun is, if you shoot a12 guage payload at standard speeds its going to feel like a 12 gauge.

the 28 gauge is "ideal" with a 3/4 ounce "square" load. just like 7/8oz in a 20, 1oz in a 16, and 1 1/8oz in a 12.
